My cacti fam + a couple questions

Hey peeps, I just wanted to share some new additions to my cacti fam.
Left - Had this Pedro for a while.
Centre - new Pedro that I just potted today. Top cut that came with roots in tact so I just planted it in 50% potting soil + 25% perlite + 25% worm castings.
Right - new Peruvian Torch which was a middle cut. I planted it in 50% soil + 50% perlite to root. Once roots form I will move him to clay pot with same potting mixture as centre Pedro.
My questions for y'all: 1) How do I get Left pedro to be a phat chonker like the middle guy? Can anyone tell just by looking at him what he's missing? Not enough water? Too much sun? Not enough? Fertilizer?
2) The other guys are now left to form new roots. What is the general procedure with this? From what I read NO water at all and shade only. What happens if they do get a bit of sun? The shade in my backyard shifts around all day and it's annoying to have to baby sit them all day. Is morning dew acceptable or should I take them in at night?
3) The big top cut chonker that has roots already, I take it I can water it + give it sun exposure a lot sooner than the un-rooted torch, right?
Hope everyone's holding up alright, these cacti are giving me hope for the future.
Cheers

The chonker was probably grown in ground, considering it has flower nubs. It's comes down to several things for girth. Age, growing conditions, and genetics. The best way to get thick plants is full sun and large pots or in ground.
Dappled shade is fine for rooting cuts. So is a bit of water. I actually water my cuts as soon as I plant them. If they're well calloused, they can take moisture. I think it helps then root faster, as all my cuts start to root after about a week or so.

Thanks for the info! I think you’re right about it coming from the ground. Saw some pics that the seller had posted on facebook... makes sense.
The stuff I was reading about rooting got me kind of stressed out like it’d be easy to mess up or something. Good to know that it’s a chill process
