Defunding the Police force makes sense on a few levels. First off, we aren’t getting what we are paying for. So lets stop paying them. Second, if we do bring meaningful defunding options to the table, they are likely to change their ways. Currently, The unions (which I am all for in most cases), are actually more powerful than the police forces themselves. They generally handle discipline, handle complaints, etc.. So, to get the unions on our side, we have to reduce membership. To do that, its a little more complicated, but having less members would help. Finally, the core issue really is a training issue. Plenty of black cops have issues with too much use of force just as white cops. The training teaches them to use force. They get taught all sorts of choke holds and wrestling moves so that they can beat you up instead of treating you like a human being. The training has to change, there’s quite simply no reason for a cop to be acting like a bully. So if they want their jobs, they need to change, we make the effective by defunding them. If they can successfully change an deliver the policing method society now demands, well then maybe we can keep a few of them around.

Hollywood glamorizes the shit out of it, too. Look at just about any flick where the lead role is in law enforcement. Lol if they need some info they close the doors and beat ass to get it. Shit the last movie I saw as a matter of fact (Bad Boys for Life), Will Smith plays the ultimate I will beat the fuck out of you to get what I need detective.

I think the movie "Bad Lieutenant" had an accurate portrayal/description of a "regular joe" kind of cop.

Yep same franchise. Martin was back too. I really loved the first two films but this third one was pretty awful.

No shit, somehow that went completely under my radar. I liked the first two..
That must be why I never even heard about it, because it tanked. That sucks..
I’m going to have to look up what year it came out and figure out where I was in the world, I’m surprised I missed that.

i think this is my insane asylum song. 1.4 billion views. never knew what the fuck he was saying until just now
Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done But I don't wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Michael Bay (who directed the first 2) wasn't the director for this one. He did make a cameo though. Amazingly the reviews are pretty good -- 77% on rotten tomatoes. So I had high hopes for it since I really liked the first two. But honestly I thought it was pretty weak. If you get a chance to watch it I'd be interested in your take on it. And Martin...I am one of the biggest Martin Lawrence stans ever but he's a shell of himself. He's completely out of shape and just looked awful in the action scenes. Also they completely changed his character dramatically to the point where it barely felt like he was the same guy. Like he is supposed to have turned a new leaf and is now totally opposed to violence and he just wants to talk everything out with the bad guys and use love as a weapon.

It was corny.
Thought it was way over CGI'd too.

That is already happening and the drug war has been completely ineffective in preventing it. And a huge component of accidental overdose is inconsistent dosage, a direct result of the drug war.
So you're saying Heroin and Meth and Cocaine and Fentanyl should be over the counter and regulated like Cannabis?
The drug war IS doing more than if there was not one. Do you know how many millions of pounds of narcotics have been seized trying to cross the border?
Imagine the deaths now, times 50 if the illegal narcotics were allowed to flood the countries.
Your argument makes no sense.
It's not working AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD< but it damn well is working better than none.
Hmm, how much of the total drugs is actually seized by law enforcement? Even the DEA admits they seize only a micro fraction of the total drugs. So your thesis that somehow there would be some overflow of illegal drugs without law enforcement isn't true.

I dont agree with him, but I think you are forgetting one thing, if they were legal there might be more people trying to import more drugs

Yep to the regulation. Not necessarily over the counter though.
How will that stop thousands of pounds of black market drugs crossing the border.
If anything legalizing it will increase criminal activity.
Just look at what happened in America when they Legalized weed in lots of states. The black market of weed SKYROCKETED>
Do you even read any scientific papers on the subject or are just speculating? You live in Canada right?
Not trying to attack you but seriously, legalizing or regulating heroin and cocaine and meth and shit will make it WORSE.
You're not making any sense here, who cares about the black market with marijuana or alcohol?
Do you know why alcohol prohibition isn't coming back into law? Because everyone already knows it was much more destructive than being legal. Does that mean legal alcohol doesn't have destructive forces? Absolutely not, it's just better than making it illegal. The same reasoning works with the illegal drugs of today.

And I think that's a fair argument for sure, but more drugs doesn't mean more drug usage. It's like producing more beer, it's doesn't mean more beer sales. It's still depends on demand.

A sophisticated plan would have to be put together that deals with these questions....it’s not like one day someone up and says “ the drug war is over” or “ the police force has been disbanded” and that’s that.

the DEA distributes a shitload of drugs, especially in rural areas. from what ive heard they are the ones putting half the shit on the streets in ak and they put trace amounts of say ecstasy in the meth so they can track it when they bust people on the street
Quote:
Federal law allows informants, like those employed by the DEA, to engage in “otherwise illegal activity” as part of an investigation. Those activities include “trafficking in what would be considered as large quantities of controlled substances” — 450 kilos of cocaine, for instance, or more than 90,000 kilos of marijuana.
