I mixed this a couple days ago but it is starting to looking dry should I mist it or wait for pinning.

If it's dry, mist. Is your lid a towel?

It is for now while it’s colonizing, I’ve heard it helps. But I’ve also heard never mist before full colonization

Fruiting conditions right after spawning are OK but having just a towel as a lid is allowing a lot of air in and drying your sub. So you’ll either have to mist often (Misting is okay during colo) or just put a regular lid on. Loosely or otherwise

Hydrate the sub a little then Put the tub in a trash can bag tie wrap and forget for a week or more.

I know It's hard to do Haha...

You're hearing some strange things. Aside from the towel, mist when it looks dry. Until you dial in your FAE, mist as needed. I've been growing over a year, I still haven't dialed in a set-and-forget-until-pins tub. No matter. I let them dry out a little if they're too wet, mist if they're too dry.

My subs would drown if I did this. And I've even tried pulling back to 1L water per brick. I still get mass condensation and need to dump out water.

One of the worst things you can do is let it sit dry.

Mist lightly. Get rid of the towel and snap the lid on. Monitor its moisture without opening the lid too often. Mist lightly as needed. When fully colonized, unsnap the lid and start decreasing the polyfil packing to increase FAE if needed.

One liter water per brick.....What..? Something not adding up.

I have a suggestion for you.

Weigh your coir by grams.
Take that weight and multiply It by 4.75......That will give you how many ml. or grams of water you need. (1 ml. of water Is 1 gram)

4.75 Is a good starting sweet spot. If you live In a humid climate and water pools at 4.75 the next time try 4.5 or If It too dry try 5.0

If you want to throw in a couple quart of verm.
Weigh the verm in grams and then add the same weight in water and add the hydrated verm to your coir..

The whole Idea Is to find your sweet spot and be able to exactly duplicate It using the scale.. There's no eyeing or guessing with my method I even weight the water.
I hope this helps...

I've been using Caps' SOS tek. I just typed out my whole explanation there in a couple posts. Take a look if you're really bored

I misted until it looks damp and put a cover on it, this is my third attempt of many fails and the mycelium looks so healthy compared to others times. I’m excited to see how this turns out.

Condensation is expected to happen. It's because sub is warmer than the surrounding environment. What makes it worse is bacteria, because it will warm up even to higher temperatures.

Okay I read It.. I see what your talking about now..

I did the Bod tech at 5x the weight of coir In grams for water weight and had pooling big time. Then tried 4.75x the weight of coir In grams for water weight and that cured the pooling problem..

That's 163 ml. of water difference between 5 or using 4.75 x 650 grams coir weight.

I know, but it's happening to the extent that I have to pour off 40-50ml water a day from the bottom of the tub. My next experiment is to drill holes in the same relative positions as a large tub would have. Caps said himself moisture content in these unmodded tubs can be finicky, and even he suggested trying holes. I love the size of these and need to find a way to make them work without a daily moisture patrol.

But I dialed it back little by little until I was at 1L per brick, and STILL had the pooling problem. Adding verm helped prevent over-saturation for a few days longer than straight coir, but a real solution still eludes me. Next couple tubs I spawn are going to have FAE holes with polyfill. I've been trying to make unmodded tubs work, they're just not for me.

I don't incubate, it's just room temp between 70-81F depending on time of year. I just drilled holes in a few tubs so hopefully that gets my moisture under control.
