Horse poo pasteurize temps got too high

I started pasteurizing my substrate last night. I put it in a foil pan with foil on top and a candy thermometer in the middle of it. I set my oven on 200f and when my temps got up to 140f I opened the oven door and let the inside temp drop to 170f. I closed the door and reset the oven to its lowest setting (170f). I accidentally fell asleep and woke up 6 hours later. My temps were at 181f. I took it out, set it on the counter and went to work. Did I ruin my substrate by actually sterilizing it instead of pasteurizing it? I won’t be pasteurizing my subs at night anymore. I’ve searched thoroughly and found people saying it could still work and others said it wouldn’t. I’d like an up to date answer if possible. Should I toss it outside and restart or use it? Thank you!

I’m guessing I’ll still use it... I’ll just use it to spawn one big monotub and hope it fruits. I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask..

It’s really impossible for anyone to say how this will turn out. It might be partially sterilized and that might be a vector if the spawning culture isn’t vigorous or aggressive. That might cause it to contam. But it might be OK, difficult to say. This is one reason why using manure represents a risk, while it’s cheaper than a $3 brick of coir (assuming your time is worth nothing) it’s also far easier to screw up. Coir is pretty close to foolproof.

I’ve heard people say to let it sit in whatever container you used to pasteurize for about a week, time to allow the thermophilic bacteria to recolonize the areas it may have been killed off. Up to you time wise.
I used hpoo for a while, doing the MudaBucket to pasteurize. It worked great and my tubs seemed happy but they were all MS grows and the coir/verm tubs seemed happy too. I never got around to testing clones between coir and hpoo but I really don’t think it’s worth the extra work and risk unless you’re growing a strain that needs duce.
