apparently covid is very selective in who it attacks.
I guess covid targets churches/synagogues/religious congregations, private businesses and peaceful protests where people are exercising their right to bear arms but not people rioting in support of blm.
I never would have thought covid would be so woke but the media said people participating in the former three things were awful and stupid and killing grandma but they are defending the latter.
It seems like NYC police resources are actually better spent making sure religious jews don't gather for services and ceremonies than they are breaking up riots and keeping criminals detained.
\end sarcasm
serious disclaimer for the people who are bound to jump all over me: police brutality is very bad, I'm glad the officers involved in the George floyd case were fired and the one who held his knee on his neck for several minutes while he called for help was arrested. that was truly awful.
I am in no way defending George floyds death. I'm just wondering where all the outrage and accusations of killing grandma are when it comes to causes the media like.
Picture from Toronto Floyd protests:

Ottawa:

Picture from Winnipeg protests arguing that the province is not reopening fast enough:

Personally criticized the Winnipeg protests about 3 days ago and while still not approving of the issues with social distancing in the Floyd protests at least people are still practicing wearing masks and using hand sanitizer at them
and while there is no "real reason" for Canada to be having solidarity protests over violence of US police officers within the US, consider the Floyd protests to be a much more valid reason to be out en masse than wanting a haircut
Trudeau still frightened of Covid, while Trump is busy being frightened of citizens

Trudeau is far from perfect but the fact that he is out there in the streets with protestors speaks volumes about him.
Same with Joe Biden showing up at the Philly protest to speak. He's not a perfect candidate by any means, but wow what a powerful contrast between that and Bunker Boy. Same with all the state senators and other politicians out there who have been fighting and getting teargassed and pepper sprayed and shot at alongside their constituents. Give America a Backbone Again 2020.

The impact on the economy from covid has been tremendous. Maybe the average high profile portfolio stockholder has found ways to reinvest all his regular money sure. Universities and airports have taken a major beating as have what most call entirely unessential businesses cruise lines and restaurants etc. The fact is the average worker is clawing for shifts right now even the re employed ones. The story was supposedly if the charts showed a drop in the curve things would immediately come back towards reopening. This was the story. Yet things are still crawling forward. Protests fill the streets constantly blocking the flow of traffic. Further curfews and restrictions continue to be implemented. When will all this end? They have shown the social distancing model works mostly to protect infections from high risk individuals. Some even say group congregations inside are just as deadly and perhaps being outside in warm weather is even better as long as social distancing is practiced. Why then continue to uselessly shutdown? Especially considering studies investigating that possibly the level of contagion spread way before the discovery of this virus and so many people had it anything but the strictest lockdown had almost no effect anyway on the general spread of this thing (allowing restaurants to give take out orders from untested employees as an essential business.) It seems the crowd screaming that people going outside and risking everyone's lives was selfish has opted to silence themselves on that front in favor of support for the George Floyd protestors. Civil unrest is strong in the streets. If no one cares anymore why is the economy still being chained down to a recession? Why does the health care industry have to be the one pillar of society tied to the rest of the economy that when its run with incompetency everyone else has to suffer. Everyone depends on their jobs. Mortgages. Construction. Finance. Transportation. Industry by industry people who did nothing wrong are taking a huge hit and this is almost not spoken of in the least.
Anyone?

Where are you? Practically everything is reopen here. If someone were to try to make that argument here it would be a strawman. The economy here is only suffering to the extent that people are still afraid to go out for legitimate reasons, not because businesses are closed.
Literally the only way you can tell covid19 still exists here is a) people wearing masks or b) if you work with covid patients

The Northeast is still opening very very slowly and we still have a fuck ton of people out of work. I went inside a liquor store for the first time in months yesterday because I was finally allowed to(it's only been curbside and deliveries up until now). We're still in the yellow phase of reopening too, masks, ppe, sneezeguards, lines, capacity limits in stores, traffic signs telling people to stay the fuck home and social distance still..everything. I expect things will get a bit better for the summer and worse again in the Fall, but part of me wonders if we'll also see a big surge when we do reopen fully.

Out of curiosity, how wide spread is mask use there?
Here people are pretty lax outdoors, but I haven't seen a single person inside anywhere without a mask on and while I don't know if it's state mandated, every single business is requiring it regardless. Our infection rates have continued trending down pretty dramatically, though I am going to have to check back in next weekend since we just moved from red to yellow on Friday. People seem to be doing a pretty okay job social distancing as well. It's not perfect, and there are some assholes who need to be told to wait a freaking second so the 85 year old woman up ahead can wipe down her fucking cart and do what she's gotta do...but overall, I feel safe in stores with this level of compliance.

Everyone I see in North NJ wears a mask. 90% of people driving wearing masks, too. 100% latino population wearing masks, even while walking on empty streets.
Btw my covid-19 IgG antibody test came back Negative, guess that's good and bad, but even more reason to wear a mask in public and behave responsibly.

The list of the states with the most new cases looks a lot different than last month.

Florida Sets New Single-Day Record for Coronavirus Cases Since Reopening Economy, Over 4,000 in Three Days
Quote:
The number of cases reported on Friday marked a new single-day high number of cases since Florida implemented phase one of its reopening plan on May 18. The previous single-day high was on April 17, when the department reported at least 1,416 new cases.
In addition to hitting a single-day record, Florida has also seen a spike in the number of cases over the past three days. According to the state's department of health, there have been at least 4,231 new cases in the past three days, with 1,317 on Wednesday; 1,419 on Thursday; and now 1,495 on Friday.
Across Florida, a majority of the cases have stemmed from Miami-Dade County, Palm Beach County and Broward County. According to the health department, there are currently at least 19,056 cases in Miami-Dade; 7,572 in Broward; and 6,859 in Palm Beach.

Are people still stocking up as far as food & supplies?
I know there's always a chance of a second wave but things mostly seem to have leveled out at the grocery stores. They seem almost fully stocked.
I'm starting to work my way through some of my food that I bought. I mean they don't last forever. Especially the stuff in the freezer -- a few of the things that I bought already were getting some freezer burn.

Wonder how many cases are being exported. My brother, sil, and his kids are going to Myrtle Beach. All I can do is hope that they're safe and watch their dog . Seems irresponsible to me but that is not a battle I'm gonna try to fight.
They are saying that they'll socially distance/quarantine after they come home so at least there's that.
Meanwhile my roommate and I and a couple others are putting forward a collaborative effort to keep her 2 year old the fuck out of daycare until there is a vaccine as she starts to go back to work part time.
@Niffla, not really. Things have calmed down here. I will probably slowly create an actual stockpile in the next month though and get prepped for the Fall.

Things have leveled out at the grocery store here, but the gun store is picked clean according to my friend.
Gotta admit, it was heartwarming to see the TP retuning to its natural habitat.
