Grave Nazi Removal

Should there be such a thing, as "protected history"?
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2020/06/01/nazi-headstones-will-be-removed-from-us-veterans-cemeteries-va-leaders-say/
VA officials announced Monday they will remove a series of of grave markers bearing Nazi swastikas and tributes to Adolf Hitler from department cemeteries after lawmakers and veterans advocates complained the markers were offensive and disrespectful.
The move represents a turnaround from last week, when VA Secretary Robert Wilkie said he was looking for ways to put the problematic grave markers “in historical context” rather than remove them from the cemeteries.
But critics said any result that left the controversial symbols alongside the graves of American war heroes was insufficient. After about two weeks of controversy, VA officials relented.
“It is understandably upsetting to our veterans and their families to see Nazi inscriptions near those who gave their lives for this nation,” Wilkie said in a statement Monday. “That’s why VA will initiate the process required to replace these POW headstones.”
A gravestone belonging a German prisoner of war at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in Texas includes the Nazi swastika and an inscription referencing Adolf Hitler. The 76-year-old marker has prompted recent controversy about its location alongside deceased American veterans. (Courtesy of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation)
Nazi swastikas at veterans cemeteries prompt outrage, but VA calls them protected history Gravestones on VA property of former German prisoners of war also display a reference to Adolf Hitler.
At issue are three grave sites at two VA cemeteries: Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in Texas and Fort Douglas Post Cemetery in Utah.

There should be , even the parts we don't agree with but well, as the saying goes; history is written by the victors.

I read about a Jewish group, I can't remember if it is here or in Israel, who's spokesmen said the grave markers should not be removed. He said retaining these symbols of Nazi history was more important than the inflammatory response they might provoke.

Trying to find some related information; looks like the Nazi was laid to rest since 1943. So thats over 70 years of the tombstone being public. One would think, that this would cause a stir with other WW2 vets but it seems more controversial for people today.
Why is that? Is it really cause everyone is woke? Are there parallels here to the removal of Confederate statues or is this something different?

Here is the power; damn that inscription is intense:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/wasserman-schultz-calls-for-removal-of-nazi-tombstones-in-us-military-cemeteries/
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a leading Jewish congresswoman, on Friday called on the Department of Veterans Affairs to replace three headstones in military cemeteries bearing swastikas and invoking Hitler.
The inscriptions are on graves of German prisoners of war who died in US internment camps during World War II. Two are in a Houston cemetery and another is in Salt Lake City.
In addition to the swastikas, the tombstones include the phrase “He died far from his home for the Führer, people, and fatherland.” Führer was the title Adolf Hitler assumed for himself

Identity politics = toxic poo
Respect the dead & history - even if it is your enemy...leave it be. I can’t believe this shit. I mean... I can - but that doesn’t make it not infinitely derpy and childish.

Agreed. Idk why anyone thinks they have the right to mess with another person’s headstone. As if ignoring history you don’t agree with, or getting rid of physical evidence of the losing side of history’s battles-wars-& struggles will somehow erase the past ?
Give me a break.

I agree as well.
-------------------- I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them. I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

To keep it in style, they should be exhumed and the remains burned in open pits over train rails with gasoline.

Hard for me to wrap my head around it. Could one ever defend/ accept testing place for a Nazi (or German solider)? What if homeboy was conscripted in the Wehrmacht?
Is there any relation to the Confederate monuments being removed.....or apples and oranges?
Messing with a grave seems alot more taboo, however this is no longer off limits. Controversial history no longer celebrated and/or tolerated in our evolving society; everyone's panties in a bunch, for good reason.

No way to watch it without thinking humans are brutal and ruthless AF.
Looks like the military maybe getting woke;LOL.
https://thehill.com/homenews/media/501882-petraeus-time-to-remove-names-of-confederate-traitors-like-benning-bragg-from
Former CIA Director David Petraeus argues in a new opinion piece that names of Confederate "traitors" should be removed from U.S. military bases.
The retired Army general wrote in The Atlantic that "it is time to remove the names of traitors like Benning and Bragg from our country’s most important military installations," referring to the training bases named after Gen. Henry Benning and Gen. Braxton Bragg, who Petraeus argued were subpar military leaders "who left much to be desired."
"These bases are, after all, federal installations, home to soldiers who swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States," the 67-year-old wrote. "The irony of training at bases named for those who took up arms against the United States, and for the right to enslave others, is inescapable to anyone paying attention. Now, belatedly, is the moment for us to pay such attention."

The country was founded by traitors. It's part of the culture. I supposed he'd prefer the name Fort Patraeus. Or with Dumbass in the White House it'd wind up being Fort Flynn.

NASCAR just banned the display of Confederate flags by fans at races, whenever they start letting fans in.

I don't know how that's going to work, are they going to have a flag police at the races?
