Are my plates ready for a2g?
    #26726684 - 06/07/20 02:01 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

As the title says, are my plates ready? Someone said yes they are but I feel like they’re not colonised enough. Just wanted a few opinions on the matter as it’s my first time...

They are colonized enough they are to the edge which is frowned upon, I would make transfers and put those to grain, if theyre clean, before they get to the edge.

Thanks man will keep that in mind. I’m pretty sure it’s clean and contaminant free. Will be working on this tomorrow.

I plan to use 2 of my dishes to inoculate 10 jars (5 slices from each dish) as I have 2x35 litre tubs I plan to make. Does this sound right?

I’m a bit confused about when you would do g2g transfers if you could clear that up for me? I’m guessing with the way I’m approaching the monotub I wouldn’t be doing g2g?

Yeah, a slice per jar is good. Some use 1 slice, some will cut the whole plate up for one jar. After you inoculate those jars and they colonize. You would break up one jar and pour some of that colonized grain into the receiving jars and wait for those to colonize and break those up for your monos.

Yea...! what crack said.
You don't want them growing up the sides then transfer.

Now's a good time to transfer...

You Will be doing lots oh g2g if u plan on doing anything more than a small grow. if you wanted to do agar>grain i guess you could but progress would be much slower, seeing as with agar to grain you only have one inoculation point where as with g2g every grain poured into a new jar would be another inoculation point.

To some things up, and as crackaota said earlier, best plan of action is gonna be to first make sure your plates are clean. Then use the plates to inoculate the ten jars. Use 8 or 9 jars for your tub, and the other 2 use to g2g another 10 jars for the next grow. Make sense?

Ye I’m pretty sure it makes sense.

So when  all my jars are fully colonised I will keep one (called the master) which I will use for future grows that will now be g2g.

Should I be preparing more PC’d spawn jars as soon as I have added my colonised spawn + substrate to the mono? Or will this be too soon?

Also I understand I can keep colonised dishes in the fridge for quite a long time. Would this be the case for my colonised master jar too?

Yeah, I always G2G to 7, use 5 for a mono and G2G those 2 to 14 more. Before you know it, you'll have a lot. But you can only go so long before you have to go back to agar. With your 10 you could spawn 5 and G2G to 50 more and have 10 mono's. Anyway, wait till after you've shaken and your jars are about 90% done, before you make your receiving jars for your G2G, you got time. I like to use mine pretty quickly, they'll start drying out.
