New grow, new things to try 1

Been a while since I posted anything. Been growing on and off for years. I recently started up again and decided to try a few different things. I bought this chamber https://www.amazon.com/EarlyGrow-93763-Medium-Propagator-Extension/dp/B07HHR5DGN/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=EarlyGrow+93763&qid=1586890854&sr=8-1 I saw it on Amazon and decided it looked like something interesting to try. Stuffed all the holes. Humidity has been effortless with a few mists here and there. The bottom is not clear so no side pins at all so far and the top dome is easily removable. Just thought I'd share something that for me made things a lot easier than tubs.

That's a nice looking thing, not much more expensive than a tub either.

Nice, they're cheaper if you go to a local hydro store.

Cased with peat/verm...I used to use coir/verm. I think I like this better. Used to use WBS, this is first time with rye berries. Cambodia. Pissed because I knocked up 6 jars with cambodia and 6 with golden teacher, bought same place, same time...for some reason the GT got contam real quick but the cambodia did perfect.

So this has worked out really well for me with these little greenhouse things... This first one is on its fifth flush no contamination... And got these big boys...I know I know..I was gone a couple days and thought there's be okay but dropped spores all over each other

Psilocybe Negra I can dig it
If you used a spore syringe for those 6 and 6 jars, that was just a dice roll of spores straight to spawn. Even with the best sterile technique you can't always get clean syringes since the mushroom they came from can pick up anything while its growing. And the other steps aren't always sterile You want to see what's there on agar first and start your spawn with live mycelium.

Thanks for the explanation. Never thought of it that way. I have not tried anything like agar yet. When I first started out I did do my own spore prints and seemed to have better luck with that then buying syringes and I did do some grain-to-grain transfers that were very successful, but then I took a few years off and just started back up. I'm having so much fun with these new little houses I'm using, and it is making it nearly effortless that I might try some new things. I am just really pleased with these as well as using peat/verm instead of coir. With coir it seems like contamination happened before third flush and these are still going strong. Also first time using rye and seems so much better than the WBS I used in the past. Also pretty pleased with the cambodia, which was just a happy accident as it was a "bonus" syringe in my order. They seem to grow really fast...hence the spores dropping...did not expect them to go that fast. I do think I would like to try some more advanced stuff, but will have to educate myself first.

If you're still diggin it after a hiatus and are looking for the next fun improvement, I'd highly suggest giving agar a try.
I took a year off after my first project and started at ground zero when I jumped back in a few months ago. Got some shizz and plates and what not and it's TOTALLY worth the time n effort imho.

A lot of people seem to advocate using "no pour" methods for people new to agar but i always found anything other than petri dishes to be a PITA. A few 10 sleeves of disposable petris and some agar and light malt extract powder is pretty cheap and what i would recommend to get the feel of it. Transfers are much easier with petri dishes than a half pint jar or those PP5 tupperwares.
Just something to keep in mind if you start looking into it.
