Lid on or off?

I have colonised my spawn. Now I have transferred it to Sunstrate in a tub. Do I keep a lid on or off? All is looking good.

When you have it in a tub you normally keep the lid on. Or flipped upside down. Does your tub have holes in it? Are you growing cubes? Generally if your substrate is properly hydrated you shouldn't need to spray with water until after or sometimes during the first flush.

I like using lids, helps keep everything protected and holds in humidity.
You should mist when needed, everyone's environment is different there's no set time to mist just when needed.

Yes. I am growing cubensis. Golden teachers. I hope I get some shrooms. Once again it is all trial And error. I guess every grow requires Different attention. I think I will leave the lid on then. But will a moisture build up bring Contam?

That is good. If its drying out misting it will help and is what you should do. What kind of tub are you using? Unmodified or a monotub

I have only tried to grow my Own a few times before. They all failed but a grow Kit that I purchased a long time Ago worked. Now I have learnt how to use Spawn and substrate. So I have got this far. Feel quite good with myself.

You must leave the lid on until fully colonized. If you have the right moisture content with your substrate you should be good. Do not mist until you have put into fruiting conditions. Yes moisture build up from misting a tub that is not fully colonized is a bad idea. If you sterilize your substrate correctly 140° for 90 minutes then adding water after is just going backwards. For perfect substrate moisture when mixing. Pick up a hand full and squeeze. You only want a few drops of water to come out.

Some times it takes failure to get to success. Golden teacher is very forgiving. What is your choice of spawn? And that is a awesome feeling when you feel good with yourself.

You don't have to leave the lid on till fully colonized. It looks like a smaller tub so it can be treated like a shoebox. Flip the lid over, or cover it with white or clear plastic with a few small holes.
And you don't want to sterilize the substrate and you don't need to pasteurize it either if using coir. Look for more recent teks; not the old one's.

Correct, I did not see he was using coir. It doesn't require the pasteurized process. Smaller tubes can be treated like a shoebox. But with his confusion thought it would be best to keep the lid on. No since in taking any chances for contam. Lid or plastic wrap is basically the same. Tin foil I have always found best. If it's that small of a tub the lid would not require the wholes. With all do respect I was not trying to miss inform. And as a new commer to this forum I definitely didn't mean to over step any season members. Peace love and happiness to all.

Listen to Brian and take all information in and digest. You need to keep it covered with something until it's ready to fruit.

I haven't used tin foil, but I think it's better to let light through 12 hours a day.

Make sure the mycelium has FAE. U dont want it air-tight. Needs filtered airflow like with micropore tape or with polyfill.
