Best way to scale up
    #26724182 - 06/06/20 01:42 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hey...so

I got questions. The first pic is of my current setup at pretty much max capacity. Some background. I have 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a wife that doesnt necessarily care for me growing shrooms. She knows I do, but we dont talk about it much or anything. The deal is...I pretty much got this clean bathtub we dont use to have my shit. I went from pf tek to shoeboxes with grain over time. Now im somewhat outgrowing that. I got the grasp of things and have had less than 10%  contam rate so I think I can scale up without worrying so much about losing everything. I was thinking about switching to monos but not sure that 2 stacked will really give me more surface area for greater yield than 6-8 shoeboxes. What do you think? I dont think 2 will fit side by side stacked for 4 total bc of the bath nozzle. Also I was thinking about maybe trying a shoebox-style setup with a tub like one of these in the second 2 pics. I could buy 2 and place the over over top as a lid. Would just need a few more GE holes but i dont see why it wouldnt work essentially the same as a reg shoebox size. I would need to try to calculate how much spawn/sub I would need cuz i dont think there is a tek on a tub like that...yet. What are your opinions?

It looks like you could easily go 2 66 qt monotubs side by side and however tall you want in that space. I have a closet that is smaller than that and do 2 66 qt tubs and 1 32 qt tub on each level going 3 high.

Ill try to see if 2 fit side by side but I seem to remember it wouldnt work cuz of the spigot sticking out. Ive been doing a 1:1.5 ratio with good results and dont really want to stray away from that. How many quarts total sub and spawn combined do you guys use for a 66 qt tub? Also, could i use black duct tape on the outside of the tub rather than a liner like I do for the shoeboxes?

You could stack many shoe boxes in there. The 6qt type like 5 in a row and stacked up.

Or maybe 30 qt mini monos. Or just whatever size tubs will fit

Switch to monos. You can stack plenty in there.

For total surface area -> growing surface area? not likely. you could maybe try squeeze in more by having shallower tubs, shoebox in height. I would personally do as I do and stick to shoeboxes. you can optimise the area better by stacking them, removing individual problem ones, and rotating them easier. I havent grown a mono in over a year.

Underbeds, which are like the rolling tub you posted.

I would switch to sweater boxes with thinner sub so you didn’t need to dub them. Or put a rack of shelves on the wall over the tub.

Obviously the correct answer is to throw a tarp in the tub and fill it up with coir, but that’s not for the faint of heart.
