I think I've found a new favourite patch today. Some monsters among these;

Jeeessussss this is some serious sub porn. I was too lazy to leave the Melbourne CBD last year to hunt but I might have to go and hunt some forest subs after seeing this.
Has anyone had any luck in the Dandenong Ranges or could recommend a general area/region that a city hunter could hunt for some of these monster subs? (not very experienced at hunting subs in the "wild")

The Dandenong ranges would be a good place to scout around..

Just went for a quick walk not expecting anything and walking home with a solid amount.
Picked the same spots only a few days ago and they have provided again in smaller numbers even without any rain. Definitely worth going out and looking... however it sounds like I might have a better micro climate than others judging by recent posts
@jagsthebags I responded to your message, not sure if you saw but hope it helps in some way

Does anyone know if "wild" subs e.g. in Eucalyptus forests require regular rainfall to fruit? Or is the dew/cold mornings of June enough for them to fruit without consistent rainfall?

They don't necessarily need any rainfall to fruit and yes frequently reaching the dew point in winter can be plenty to sustain the season in the absence of rainfall. Much of Victoria should be both damp and cold enough for subs to be fruiting.

Curious about the climate, especially inland Victoria where it's getting below zero overnight and not much rain...
Discovered a bountiful patch of mature but weathered subs recently and thinking of revisiting during the week - is it getting too cold/adverse weather for new fruiting?

Totally worth it.. ~ uploading pics is being a little screwy for me at the moment so its another imagur mega post. Sorry, not sorry..
Subs from the garden;

 Have had this place for a few years now and discovered this hidden in one of the overgrown garden beds while foraging;
 Some other patches visited today;

 I wanted to check out the local pine plantation but never made it. I found these along less than a 100m stretch of road and decided to just call it a day;

Managed to have better luck today! Got a decent amount for the time being but will be going out to hunt more throughout the week...any tips and tricks would be appreciated in regards to finding them around the bush areas and around woodlands forests. Do they prefer a colder weather or slightly sunny/warm and wet? I went to a few bush areas around dandy and up north past lilydale and didn't seem like a good place for it using my current understanding of their wild habitats...any pointers would be appreciated in regards to those habitats. Thanks

@HWAP: Chur brah!
@K00sh: Thanks man.
@Zakishi: Its nice to see that you've found some subs.. But it looks as though you were a little heavy handed when pulling them out. You'd want to avoid picking unopened caps or ripping out too much mycelium if you want the patches you find to continue fruiting strongly over the years. Might I suggest using some scissors next time..

Yeah...I noticed that when I got home and saw the myscelium and earthy remnants attached to the stems, I'll keep that in mind next time and bring a small scissors along next time with me, thanks for the suggestion.
I left a lot of the smaller pins there as well, with the current climate do you think a few days or a week would be enough for them to grow?
Also, in regards to the mycelium is there anyway I could use what I got to plant some in the backyard or in a pot? Or would that not work?
Thanks
