Tamping down sub
    #26722980 - 06/05/20 11:21 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Did a quick search and didn't see anything recent on this. Has anyone experimented with different levels of tamping down their subs? I usually do a lighter, level tamping with the edges a little firmer. My latest tubs tho have gotten a much firmer, still level, tamping. I'm curious if this makes any difference at all. I have one that is just starting to pin and I don't see any difference yet but has anyone else played around with this?

I make sure its level by lightly spreading and tapping a little but I don't compress my substrates. Seems counter intuitive.
Ideally imo the myc needs fairly loose substrate to colonize the tub quickly.

I just tap it lightly so I have even canopy.

I'll keep this thread posted on how my test tubs go. They are pinning right on schedule so far.

I pack the edges in pretty good.

The surface I just slide my hand across to level then pat it down.

I tamo the shit out of my shoeboxes and it seems to keep me from getting sidepins.  The density of the sub seems to make no difference to colonization time from doing this.
