How will my friend know he has Penis Envy shrooms with spores? So far all of the gills have been LIGHT in collor. He figures the sporilating shrooms will have dark gills. Is this a correct assumption?

I would assue so because that is the case for regular old cubies...
How do they look? Like penis? Are they deformed, small flush?

I am so glad you asked... they look great... for penis envy! Very heavy looking flush!
The pics are a bit grainey when viewed at full size... sorry.
In case you are wondering... the casing is severely overlayed... but my friend isn't going to fix it until this flush is done. So far... so good!
Overall, a slow grow... and hard to get spores... but very entertaining (I mean... just look at 'em...) and rewarding.

Those look pretty good for penis envy. You are more likely to get some visible spore prints from later flushes. The first flush is almost always spore free. Good luck and keep up the good work.

The overlay is easily explained. Don Quixote cased with straight coir ('cause he couldn't find verm or peat... hard to find in NYC in the Winter... 'cause nobody has a yard in the city). 60-40 or 50-50 is easier to work with... but coir was all he could find. Cube myc eats through straight coir... almost like there is a little nutritional value in the coir.
The PE knotted very quickly... but it took a long time to pin. By the time it pinned, overlay set in.
Don Quixote didn't want to take any chances... his first two PE attempts contaminated in the jar (Bad WBS)... so he just let this batch do its thing. Unfortunally, the casing got a little dry while Don Quixote's future in-laws were in town (He couldn't tend to it regularly for a week).
By the time the casing decided to pin, it had overlayed... but with cubes, overlay is not a HUGE problem... cubes do fine on overlay. Hell, a PF cake IS overlay!
After this flush, Don may add an extra layer of casing... or he may let it keep doing its thing.
This grow, Don was most concerned about getting penises.
