Wild mushroom identification
    #26721719 - 06/05/20 11:38 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi everyone.

I just went hunting after a bunch of rain and no luck finding the typical cubensis strains in florida.

But i found a decent amount of the ones identified in the pics below and was wondering if they are actually psychedelic and edible?
They were found in northeast florida growing out of cow manure with white mycelium.
Will post detailed pics.

Thanks in advance!!

Not psychedelic but they are edible if cooked properly. Panaeolus antillarum

Thanks for the quick replies you guys!

Sucks they aren't active, but always good to learn a new strain I can collect while out.

Just curious though, if there's a field overloaded with these is it likely that they just outcompeted the cubensis there, or would it be likely that if there's none in this usually productive field then there wouldn't be any elsewhere close by with the same conditions?

Now that I have the strain name I did some research and it seems theres identical ones that are active.

Most arent but a couple are bruising blue.
Does that mean some may be active and some not?

You dont have a strain, you have a species. The blue bruising one is panaeolus cyanescens. Go easy with them though....they are hella potent

My brother once had a mental meltdown on them before, and he went totally mad. All after we all told him not to eat that many!

You know, I actually was always to sacred to eat them, and I never once did.

We all used to go raid the fields too back in Florida, and find tons!

Ah, the memories:grin:

Sorry for the delayed response.
I ate the 3 of em wet, (maybe 1.5g dried at best) and had a pleasant light high, but deffinitly not tripping.

Maybe just the ones I had, or do to the fact I ate a sandwhich like an hour before taking so didn't absorb as well, but I think the typical wild cubes in the area are a bit stronger.
Nice to have something new and different to look for though!

I made some sauted mushrooms, peppers, and onions with Italian sausage sandwhiches and didn't find the non active edible ones too appetizing.

The stems were fine and maybe mine were a bit too mature, but the tops fell apart while cooking and were a bit too mushy for my taste.

And yes mentalpariah, you got me there.
Long time weed grower, pretty novice to mushrooms.
I guess my mind goes to its roots when I'm ranting, I knew better than that though.

Not all of them are as potent as a few I found last year but they are more potent by weight than cubes. Having a full stomach also influenced the absorption due to chitin being really hard to digest. You found three, you'll definitely find alot more if you look. I tend to find mine grouped together in one section of the field and nowhere else.

No worries on the strain/species thing man, just trying to help. Dont say that in the growers forum though, those dudes are ruthless and will burn your ass if you say strain over there :laugh2:

Cubes are weak in comparison to Panaeolus cyanescens, I'm very experienced and will NOT eat more than 2g dry weight of Pan. cyanescens. I strongly recommend that you dry them thoroughly and then weigh your doses.
