Costa Rica = tiny fruits?

My first grow ever. Didn’t want to leave fruits in the tub for too long after veil break. This was the largest of ~10 I picked, which only amounted to 0.28g dried. Just wondering if this is normal for the variety.

That's really tiny. What did you grow on? Smallish fruits are usually a result of too wet substrate.

It looks like coir, but it does seem a little dark.
Idk if there’s a variety called Costa Rican but I recently did playa uvita which is from there and it had unique shrooms.

How did you grow yours? Shoebox or BRF Cake or what

Oh, sorry for the lack of detail. It’s a coir substrate, unmodified monotub. Spawn:sub ratio is low because I wasn’t expecting good spawn results and wasn’t prepared for a full tub yet. Spawn was made from LC syringe to rye berries, bag inoculated 4.17, broken up 5.9, put to coir 5.19, pins 6.1.
Not sure of the precise name for the variety. It came from a highly recommended sponsor (I would post a link to it if that’s cool). The description on the site is just:
Generated from a Costa Rican sample that was labeled as an unknown landslide mushroom.
And yeah, now that I’m looking at their picture for it, mine looks quite dark comparatively. Here’s what the tub looks like currently.

Coir looks ok there.
The surface looks dry though, gotta get the water beads going.
If the coir was overhydrated the first flush will use it up and the second should be better. It looks ok right now though so maybe that was just a weird early mushroom.

Oh, I see. So if I mist in the morning to get some tiny beads on the surface, it’s all gone by midday. Would you recommend misting every day? Twice a day? I realize every situation is different and I need to learn to do this on my own. Just trying to get some rough guidelines to start fine tuning.
Thanks for the assistance, as always!

Yes if it’s dried out mist again. If you’re around to check on it that’s fine but otherwise it’d be better to reduce the fae little by little until it’s maintaining the beads long enough to not totally dry before you can check on it.
I think what messes a lot of people up, and took me a minute to realize, is that misting the surface is not really to give the shrooms water. That’s what the coir is for. Misting is mostly just enough to keep evaporation going on the surface to trigger pins.
Once I had that epiphany my results got better because I had been misting too heavily trying to hydrate the mushrooms.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the detailed explanation. Much appreciated.
