Newbie here please help! Is this contaminated

Hello these Cambodia grain jars have been colonizing for 2 weeks now and I don’t know if this is contaminated or if they are still colonizing it seems like they are taking over these spots but growth has slowed down in these areas and there is a yellowish dust on the grains. Also it seems like these jars have humidity in them. I was going to let it go and see if it colonizes these spots but I’m sure you guys know more 🙈

Growth seems super thin. But I’ve never worked with Cambodians. The first picture has a weird uncolonized square that in some cases is indicative of a contamination (of which I can’t remember the name atm) It also looks like you may have a yeast problem. All that said, if those are from a syringe then give it another week to see how they play out. As an amateur it’s hard for me to tell what’s going on w your jars specifically and my advice should be taken with a grain of salt, but my advice is they look weird and keep them around to see what they do in a week.

Thank you so much as a newbie all advice is welcome! 😊Yeah I wanted to see how they play out. They are also really really fluffy on the top I thought that might be from me not really giving them a good shake but a light one. Yes they are from syringe and not shaken too well 🙈. In the uncolonized square there is also a yellowish dust that appears around the grains, but it seems like the mycelium is taking over those spots slowly. You can see the yellow dust if you zoom in a little more on the second picture and a little bit on the first

Tinfoil still on the lid - not a good sign. What kind of filters do you have on these?
And they’re definitely sick with something. Yeast or a yellow mold. Not looking very good homes

Why is it so, that when I restart a specific thread I come to a random site? When I click on 'Active Topics' for example, and then on this specific thread there is the word 'random' in the URL too. Sry, but I am trying to use thise site as good as I can and here is so much.

There’s a forum for these questions putrema, although I don’t really understand your question.
OP, if it turns green in the next couple of days toss it but let them play out. It may be nothing too serious, but doesn’t look healthy at all

Would you guys recommend just tossing these jars. I didn’t have a filter system so I made a hole on the lid and covered it with electric tape I just left the tinfoil on in case electric tape had a leak lol 🙈

Ohh yah. Not good or no bueno to be PC.
Mycelium needs to be able to “breathe” a little bit so you need a filter over a hole for clean air to come in. Being too stuffed up doesn’t cause contamination but it provides an even better environment for nastier stuff to grow if it can get inside (which it can through use of spore syringes straight to grain or insufficient filters)

I don’t know man. The micropore tape is probably pretty clean but when you pull of a piece it will be touching spores in the open air, and then you’ll be laying it over the hole where they can drop down. But that same thing already happened with the electric tape. Doing it again is double the chance of bad stuff dropping in but you’d be fixing a somewhat problem. If you did it in a SAB maybe.
I’d recommend just sort of hoping for these jars while prepping some new jars correctly, and getting some kind of setup for agar going so you can make sure you start with clean mycelium. There are plenty of pp5 no pour type agar teks but honestly the best way ime is to order a few 10 sleeves of disposable petris and pour your own. It’s not hard, makes you feel like a mad scientist at first, and actually allows you to have some control over your grows instead of hoping that only good invisible spores ended up in this jar. And Petri dishes are so much easier to work with than making do with half pints or mini Tupperwares.

Did you ever shake these jars earlier in their colonization? I wouldn’t switch out tape at this point. You won’t get good sterilization if pressurized steam is unable to penetrate your grains. Were your lid bands on tight during the PC cycle? But yeah, contaminated jars, sterilize them again if you are unable to open/empty/clean them all out of doors.

I actually did make a inoculation chamber which should have pretty clean air in it. Would you recommend doing this for the b+ and just tossing the Cambodia’s after I see green or not fully inoculated. I’m going to really start looking into agar and might start ordering the stuff needed for them you make it sound fun 😂😋

If you have a SAB, switch it out for micropore. Put everything in the box and leave it for 10min. Wash your hands and forearms. Use gloves sanitized with isopropyl alcohol. Sanitize the electricians tape and the lid. Work smoothly with purpose. Disturb the air in the box as little as possible. Use 2 layers of micropore.
Do more research. Make proper lids. Follow successful procedures.

I don’t follow.
Micropore tape is far inferior to synthetic filter discs, tyvek, Polyfil, as a means of gas exchange.
Don’t compromise and you’ll have better results.

The resealable pins are for injecting sorry not fae. I thought I could use Micropore for fae on jars but I’ll use synthetic disk now. How big of a hole do you recommend and what adhesive would you recommend.

Synthetic filter discs are nice but they can be expensive. Polyfil is super cheap and has become my preferred method for gas exchange on grain jars. I just drill 1/4 inch or so hole in the lid and push some Polyfil through the hole then trim it. It's so easy and cheap, I put new Polyfil each time. I've tried almost everything over the years and this has been the simplest/cheapest and very effective. I stole it from RR Let's Grow Mushrooms DVD. I still have and use synthetic filter discs...I'm just not buying anymore. I used tyvek for years and hated it, never again.

They seem to be doing fine, I'd leave them and work on new ones like others have said. But the one on the right looks a little moldy on top. Also, I can't quite figure out that sab in the pic. But don't attach gloves if that's what you're thinking about.

Thank you let time I’m going to do polyfil I want to make a few with the disk since I just bought them also can you guys help me with 1 thing. When I transfer these grains into a monotub to colonize (vermiculite + coco) how much fae should they have I read multiple people saying to put 2 strips of micropore then take off a layer when you see pins? But then I’m seeing post about no fae but it seems like this is during misting I’m totally confused on the fae needed once transferred into monotub.

Thank you. The box pretty much has 2 hand holes that I cover with a with another piece of cardboard covered in aluminum foil on top there is a hole for lighting covered with plastic wrap. A hole for seeing on top covered in plastic wrap and a whole on the side with blue tape sticking on duck tape that can open and close pretty easily to put stuff in and out. It’s not perfect by far but since I’m a painter I have a ton of tape so it only really cost me the cost of a moving box plastic wrap and aluminum foil.

It’s airtight and the inside is all covered in aluminum foil for disinfecting. I will probably make a better more permanent SAB in a few weeks. Do you have any recommendation on fae once transferring WBS to monotub. I’m confused on FAE of a mono tub during colonization I don’t have polyfil but have micropore.
