Gutted the little spot I’ve been watching grow has been pillaged. Still it was fun while it lasted.

I wouldn't be so sure - what are you basing that on? The colour of the caps does resemble typical seco colouration but I've never seen any with that morphology.

Checked a few spots again, more pins coming through on this flush and the pins I left to mature I have picked. Had a great walk and got a decent haul for what I need today.
Fortunately I came across two 18 year old kids that I had spotted with a bag filled to the brim with non-active highly toxic imposters growing near some spots I check.... I took the time to engage with them and explain that had they consumed what they had picked they would most likely die..
This concerned me greatly and I tried my best to gently caution them on the use of psychedelics and the kaupapa (ethics and principles) behind foraging for mushrooms, they both were quite shocked but I said it wasn't my place to lecture them but to offer some advice and words of caution.
Please fellow hunters; if you are fortunate enough to come across others that are hunting and are lacking knowledge; please, please, if you are confident enough & willing to help teach them or show them a better way extend an offer of friendly guidance because it does and will save lives, hopefully also preserving the reproduction and conservation of actives so everyone can find what they need.

Came across a young guy today. Shared some of my haul and hopefully some wisdom. Directed him to this site. If every picker educated themselves on here the world would be a better place I reckon.

Years of experience but living for a short time in Kaitaia now and I have been snooping a bit for the last week. Any tips for Kaitaia area as I'm pretty well dropping in the dark as you do but this is not the place to be spotted crawling around public gardens. Any local knowledge would be great. Earmarked an area of local pine that may hold but unsure. Cheers.

I'm not sure, but I don't think I agree with disregarding the basic shape of the mushroom in favour of it's cap colour when making a positive identification, much less for a mushroom whose namesake is in fact the product of its shape.
I do vaguely remember the long-stiped P. subsecotioides you alluded to but bear in mind the wide range of colours that P. subaeruginosa can have. I also don't think we can rule out P. makarorae. It would be interesting to see some better pictures and hear inski's opinion on it.
@stubbies, I found these guys in my lawn the other and actually thought they were subs at first glance:

I assume the guys you talked to were carrying the same mushrooms. I'm surprised we don't get more Galerina poisonings given their resemblance to subs. Always keep your wits about you folks.. these nearly had me fooled until I saw that dead giveaway of a skirt.

Found my very first spot today after a couple of days hunting and educating on this forum. Couldn't be happier as these are the first wild ones I found. I did not have my scissors on me but I carefully pinched them at the base with my nail and left the pins undisturbed. Thanks for the wealth of information guys. Seeing your finds kept me motivated that they are out there

Some lucky begger grabbed 10+ large subs that I had been waiting for a good 10 days to reach maturity - they where hiding under the brush. Bummer for me but they respected (perhaps didn’t see) the 20+ pins that are popping up - gonna have to do some exploring to find more spots!
Last week:

This Tuesday

Saw them yesterday and they where tall as!
