PNW Is this an edible agaricus?
    #26717346 - 06/03/20 05:33 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi there, Im hoping someone can help me ID this agaricus. I am really hoping its an agaricus augustus (aka the prince) or at least a related edible species. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Mush Love!

Cap: Brownish with brown scales staining yellow on exposed cap where rubbed.

Gills: White to creamy colored and tightly packed. Not connected to stipe.

Stipe: Thick stem. White mostly not staining yellow or red when rubbed. Slightly thicked at base but no volva. Partial veil detached from cap. Slightly yellow ring around veil.

Location: Growing in a cluster in grass next to a conifer tree along a sidewalk.

Smell: I know agaricus augustus are supposed to be very fragrant of almonds but I can only smell a very light sweet smell nothing else.

No spore print from such a young specimen.

Agaricus augustus nice find. Sometimes they don't smell as much until you cook them. Pan frying with just butter smells like someone is baking pastries imo.
