No this started happening during the winter while it was inside under an LED.
It’s outside now but I know how to harden plants off.
If it was a burn from the light I would expect to see some other cacti affected but this planter of these 3 are the only affected ones. Could it be a root issue?

I think the only way to save them is to graft an absolutely clean areol to another plant. The plants pictured are toast, its a slow death.

Two pictures below of a similar affliction. I never found the answer as to what it is or how to stop it. I still have a few plants with this heinous **** slowly killing them but they are quarantined far away. The balloon cactus is now planted in an old garden bed to live out its last year before I just let it freeze.

The second picture, see the T.grandiflorus in the back, yeah, the brown stuff eventually overtook the entire plant. Its like the outer skin just dies but its still green inside.

Is that some kind of scale?  Usually sunburn it at the top of the column by the tip.

Maybe a root issue. The pot looks really small to have 3 in there.

I applaud you for growing in Canada. That must be difficult. I thought it got too cold here... haha

But it’s weird. Looks like maybe a bug attack or sunburn. Did they get too cold?

If a TPMC (Crested Pach) is grafted onto a PC Stock, can it grow as a graft for a long while? Multiple years? I read somewhere that eventually the Scions will grow apart and the Graft will have to be taken off.

I ask because I bought an already grafted Crest. Everything looks good, the Crest is fairly small about 4 inches across and the graft is solid. Any idea how long I'll be able to grow it as a graft before needing to separate the crest from stock?

What’s going on here?

This cactus has been under a 300w LED all winter since I’m in Canada. I took care of it like I take care of all my cacti through the cold months and these are the only ones that did this weird corking at the top. Sucks ass cuz these were some of my favourite peruvianus specimens. I’m actually really upset. Is this something that’s going to kill my cacti? Can I get rid of it or slow it down?

Most importantly is it going to spread and how can I stop that from happening?
Some of my cacti have been with me nearly 10 years, they’re more than just plants they’re my friends and I can’t let this corking whatever it is ravage them.

Anyone with insight please help!

They all just got moved outdoors last week. But this cacti has looked like this since December I think is when it started.

Bad man this feels :frown:

How often do you water during winter?

I've only had one look anything like that, and it was one I had in a tiny pot in a sunny window and didn't water for a year+

It's getting huge grey fox! How big is that? about a meter judging from the aloe?

mkcobain: I've heard of people fertilizing their cannabis plants with urine, but it's generally diluted. Since it's pretty tough to tell if a cactus is getting nutrient burn until the roots are already pretty damaged you might wanna dilute it to 75:25 instead of the usual 50:50 I've seen people use and tell us how it goes. I don't know if it migh damage the cactus, so maybe do it with one you don't mind losing.

Here's a pic of my first graft and it's sibling that were sowed at the same time back in Febuary. I believe the grafted one was about 6 weeks old when I grafted it.

The graft got kinda stunted because I transplanted it and a few weeks later proceeded to knock the poor little guy down, but it's starting to show new growth again.

how far was the LED from teh cacti they certainly can burn cacti. however how long have you had them in the see through container? roots dont like light! and as its small aswell def could be a root issue as it does appear to be starting where spines come out...

Urine also contains a rooting hormone (indoleacetic acid), not sure if the concentrations are high enough to matter though.

Lots of people actually do this. Had chat about the subject with elder lady who grows lot cacti and names her clones after GD. She said that You should use cow urea. But some people use theyr own pee and some even pee directly on plants.

But yeah, pee tek is an actual thing with cacti people.

I Like to feed my plants with my urea for the reason all so that they get to taste my dna. Personal medicine for the grower.

I would never pee on my cacti, mature healthy plants pup plenty, especially once cut.

Nice GF that’s getting big!
