Is initial growth frequently NOT rhizomorphic?
    #26719451 - 06/04/20 03:34 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I transferred a wedge of some pretty rhizomorphic growth to a new petri dish. As you can see in the center, the initial growth is not rhizomorphic. I thought I was pretty clean when I did the transfer I only got a rhizomorphic section.

Is this a common thing - the point of transfer has fuzz or did I accidentally pick up some non-rhizomorphic growth as well?

That looks like a beautiful culture, but sometimes a culture is rhyzo and sometimes not. No big deal really, rhyzo just looks cool.

I guess to be more specific, my question is this:

Do you notice when you put a piece of rhizomorphic wedge onto a new petri dish, The initial growth frequently looks fuzzy before it is then rhizomorphic after that (like in the picture)?

Someone told me this always happens but I just want to be sure.

I believe we answered this for you the other day.  Even rhizomorphic cultures, when transferred, will initially look fuzzy as the mycelium colonizes the rest of the transfer wedge and gets used to the surroundings.  If you want more proof, look in the all things agar thread, and you will see extremely rhizomorphic growth with a poofy white ball in the middle.
