Roughly yea, it doesn't have to be exact. Typically people refer to the first number as spawn and the second number is the sub amount in volume. 1spawn:1sub, 1:2 and so on.

One quart of coir is way too shallow for me. I eyeball it but I think I do about 2.5, whatever goes up to the line on the tub.
Same with these big ones.

Yeah, you can use same jar/container/whatever. I got a large punch gallon jug with liter/quart markings on the side.

I was intrigued by the use of Black Kow composted cow manure. I went looking for it, and the local stores don't carry it. They do carry steer manure compost, but that is partly composted tree debris, lot of bark comnpost. Its great for the garden, but not sure it would be rich enough in manure to be worth the trouble. What do you all think? If nobody sees a reason -not- to try it, I'm about to spawn to a couple tubs soon, and I'll try it in one.

Yep everything is hydrated volume at the time of fruiting.

Just to make sure I'm right proper field capacity is "a few drops to a small stream that ends quickly" right?

It changes considerably with the batch of coir, its not a set in stone number.

Most people use 3.5 to 4 quarts of water for a 650 g brick Edit: that’s 650g brick of coir with 2 quarts of vermiculite.

If I’m just using coir I normally use about 1L of water per 200g of coir if I’m only using coir but it can fluctuate.

Well that's good to know that's crazy it can change by that much I have used 2 types of coco one really fine that took more water and one larger particle that took less water I went with the coco that held more water thinking it would have more water for fruit to use what do u think would be better larger particle that holds less water or smaller particle that holds more water?

It probably doesn’t matter that much as long as it’s a field capacity. I normally use a brick and it has bigger particles.

1 Gal of water per brick of coir does it every time.

I normally shoot for several drops but not a stream. Hopefully Caps doesn’t get upset lol we kinda hijacked his thread

U use a whole gallon to a brick without any vermiculite?

The point is to NOT get it to field capacity. I used to add 3.25L water per brick when I started out with bod's tek. I was getting massive condensation and pooling in my tubs. Somewhere in this thread, I read many people extolling the virtues of hydrating below field capacity. Fungus doesn't need as much water as you think. Less water means less prone to contam, and less sub shrinkage away from the walls.
Around that time is when I decided to switch to Caps' SOS, so I tried dialing back my initial hydration to prevent over-watering. I kept going till I ended up at like 1.1L per brick. I'd add a little water to the brick, let it soak in, shave it with a paint scraper, repeat until it was in little bits, then let it sit a couple hours (with the lid on) to let the water disperse. There would still be some dry coir, but then I'd add my spawn, which had some water in that, which fully hydrated the coir.
But even with only 1.1L, I was still getting significant condensation and pooling. I'd dump out like 40ml water from the bottom, wipe the water off the lid and walls, and next day more water. I'd often get mold, likely from too much water. It was driving me crazy. It was like fucking evil elves were adding more water while I slept. But then...I'd have another tub on the same shelf that would consistently be too dry and I'd have to mist 2x a day. FUCK!
So just a few days ago I started adding 1.5L verm to the sub to try to control moisture levels. I still have condensation, but I no longer wake up to subs soaking in a pool of water. Other people have stellar results using more water and not using verm. There's no one right answer. You have to keep trying and failing until you find the formula that works for you.
