Found this beauty recently and noticed the bruising on the cap, which I had never seen before. Thought I’d share and see what you guys think

Cheers

That is a dye used when spraying landscaping with weed killer 8f I remember correctly. Was it on anything elses?

I agree, this is probably the case. It looks like splotches of something rather than bruises, which usually appears on the
cap's apex and along the margin, as far as I've seen in pictures. Mind you, I never had first hand contact with subs.
You should go back and check the spot again. If it actually is caused by a weed killer, there should be visible green
spots on the surrounding vegetation and on the ground. If this is the case, I would probably not eat the mushrooms
from that patch.

That looks like a good shroom, but i think it would be very hard to tell what it is only from that pic

It depends on where you got it from. What was the habitat? When the subs start to dry out from the sun they tend to do that. I'll post some habitat shots of subs out in the mountains and bush where there isnt a drop of spray. They tend to stain and crack once they start to dry out. I have picked a good amount like that these last 2 weeks from the consecutive days of sun. I also noticed depending on the subtrate they can vary in colour and degrees of staining when drying as well. I have subs that dry all ink blue-black and are perfect condition. The subs come in so many varieties out here. Also because of the blue staining and golden hue when drying the caps can look blotchy green from bleeding so to speak. Look at the wrinkles at the base of the cap and you can see this one started drying out already. If in doubt throw it out. Never take a chance. They are freaking everywhere right now.

I don’t recall seeing any green patches, this was picked in a pine plantation about 5 metres from the edge of a dirt truck road, basically under some old pine fallen down.

Do you think it’s safe to eat?

if that's the case,  I will say that is bruising and not weed killer as I suspected. if this was a landscaping area I would be concerned.
