Deff, what can you compare that series to?

Hmm, it is a bit like Lord of the Rings in a way, but unique as well. To me it feels more realistic maybe and less of a fantasy despite having lots of magic and such. I haven't read anything truly like it to be honest though maybe there are other fantasy series like it, but I haven't read too much fantasy myself until now. It's a long series (15 books) so you really get deeply connected to the story and the characters, I love it  definitely an epic story with many threads that follow many characters. I remember reading that the book series had well over 2000 named characters in it, though most of them are named briefly of course.

Reading The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin.

I found this quote at the end of one of the chapters to be quite relevant to todays situations.

“What have you left, then? Isolation and despair! You’re denying brotherhood, Shevek!” the tall girl cried.

“No — no, I’m not. I’m trying to say what I think brotherhood really is. It begins — it begins in shared pain.”

“Then where does it end?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know yet.””

Thought it was high time to dust off some Howard Zinn so I’m rereading You Can not be Neutral on a Moving Train.

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill.  AMC is making a show about it but not coming out for awhile.  It is really messed up and a horror book.

Patterson has a new one out without a co-author, I despise lazy authors that do this to cash in but this is by him but will finish this one first.

If it bleeds by Stephen King on audio.  Get to distracted by audio books and is hard to keep track of compared to reading.

Read all of Kings books besides a couple and hell he has a large amount of them but there was one author that I read that was horror and from the 80's or something and it is the only book I have ever read that still bothers me to this day.  And it takes a lot.  Just can't remember his name and not sure I really want to.  Seriously.  One of those things one can't get out of ones mind.

Like watching a vid on this early twenties kid that thought he had saw everything on the dark web and then mentioned that he finally found one video that was so humanity/soul crushing he would never me the same.  I can handle fiction to a point.  The real stuff on video, no.  I just don't mess with it.  But this book is good, Hill can write.

Absolutely wonderful book. I think it's no overstatement to say that Conroy was one of the masters of the second half of the 20th Century in America.

When i saw the Movie, my mind was blown. Easily one of my favorite movies.

Just started the original here. Loving the Intro. Very relatable and easy to read. Hes giving a history of how this book came to be. Im excited about this Classic and where it takes me

Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher. A good friend gave me the first 3 books of the series, which he said was his favorite series to date. He also recommend The King Killer Chronicles, so I am hopeful for this series.

Getting close to finishing the 8th Wheel of Time book, then I'm going to pause that series (I'm enjoying it but feel like a change of series for a bit) and start the Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist, which sounds really neat

Good luck on the 1000 pager.  Read it and worth it, just takes a lot of time lol.  Oh the black widow.  One of the best endings I have ever read.

Dude.... that movie was a travesty, I’m happy it brought you into OSC’s works but part of me died when I watched that adaptation.
So so bad and they obviously didn’t ever intend to continue from there.

If I remember right Valentine isn’t even a fucking character.
The subsequent books couldn’t even happen without her.

Please promise me you will keep reading the series at least to Children of the Mind?!?
If not at least Xenocide.

Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right

It's dense, but very interesting, outlining some of the ways money has been used to influence thought in the United States. Trusts and endowments that fund think-tanks and lobbyist groups or start programs at colleges/universities that push a conservative agenda, supporting deregulation for the direct benefit of those billionaires. Pretty crazy stuff that a lot of people know about, but the amount of detail in this book is fascinating.

Started Magician: Apprentice (Book One of the Riftwar Saga) by Raymond E. Feist today and enjoy it already  getting myself into a potentially big commitment as the entire Riftwar Cycle (this saga is the first four books of it) is a total of 30 books (!!!) - lots of reading potentially!

@deff I tried picking up Feist before, but I stopped halfway as I felt like I was reading someone's DnD adventure notes in a setting they've been playing for years. I hear magician is good, do let us (me) know if you enjoyed it!
