Hello. I started a mini tub of coir substrate with a pint jar of b+ (all my other jars failed to grow anything). new to growing, this is my 2nd attempt. Its been about 6 days now, is this growing contam, or healthy growth? Ive been scouring the archives and previous posts to see if I can find something similar, google just brings up is this cobweb posts. Thanks for any help, wasn't trying to bug anyone with this.

Did you pc the coir?? It looks dark.
I agree, the whole deal looks off but I’m not sure why besides the obvious weird myc puffs.
Might be mold on the surface.

Yup, I did 15 psi for 90 minutes.Maybe I left a little too much moisture, but it seemed to be at field capacity (i think is the right term) Been following the guides on here. So far that was my first attempt at a substrate grow, and it was in a tupperware container. The 5 BRF jars I have injected with golden teacher and the 3 rye quarts of b+ seem to be going to plan and all instructions ive found on here. Maybe ill research the substrate a bit more before the rye is ready.

That may be one of your problems. Coir is not supposed to be sterilized. Doing that, then spawning in open air created space for contamination to set in. Pasteurize coir not sterilize. And TBH you can just hydrate the coir with hot water and then spawn. No need for a real pasteurization. But, to each their own.

I think with coir it doesn’t matter what you do to it, sterilize it or pour cold tap water on it, it’ll all be fine.

If your spawn is good then yeah, you may be fine with it being sterilized then spawned in open air. Assuming most people asking for help don’t have the cleanest spawn, sterilization probably isn’t the way, especially since it is unnecessary.

What do you mean exactly by this?

Sterilizing kills off everything, even good microbes which a lot of substrates have.
That’s why you pasteurize manure for example. The bad stuff dies off and the good stuff stays and makes it hard for contams to get started.
Coir has so little microbes it doesn’t matter though.

Open air conditions. Not in a SAB or in front of a flow hood. Meaning that the air isn’t sterile. So opening anything sterile in a non sterile environment deems it no longer sterile.

I realize after going through my saved links the one I used is from another site, my bad. I was using a coir/coffee/gypsum mix. The guide writer says you can either pasteurize or sterilize. I went with the sterilize. however, it has been pointed out to me coir should at most be pasteurized.

Don't even pasteurize it. Coir is ready to go out the gate. Just add room temp tap water to hydrate, let it sit a while to evenly distribute, mix it with your hands and it's done.
