How does a daily cannabis habit influence a psilocybin trip?

Hi folks,
I'm very interested in how daily cannabis smokers prepare for taking psilocybin mushrooms.
I vaporize about .3 grams of cannabis daily, and have a strong tolerance to it. I get a much stronger high if I skip a couple of days.
I've found some P. Subaeruginosa and will aim for a reasonably strong dose. This will be my third psilocybin trip. I'll probably use cannabis on the come down.
Would you recommend a break from cannabis before taking psilocybin?
Does a tolerance to cannabis even affect the experience of psilocybin at all?
Many thanks

Not at all IME. When I was smoking regularly years ago tripping was fine. And now when I'm smoking occasionally tripping is still fine.

I was just reading about this! Having a tolerance to weed has no affect whatsoever on drugs whose active compounds target the serotonergic system (Tryptamines). If you had a tolerance to lsd, that would be a different story, but since the compounds in weed and the Tryptamines in mushrooms act on different neurons, their tolerances do not interfere with one another!

When I take psilocybin I’m looking for clarity and meaning from the trip. I vape pot daily also, and what I have noticed is when I’ve used pot within the last day or so prior to tripping on mushrooms I have trouble remembering the details and insight of my mushroom journey. The two drugs seem to play well together physiologically, but this is the reason I avoid using them at the same time. Mushrooms have lessons to teach, and I want to remember what I’ve been shown.

Not in my experience it's not affected. I smoke all day everyday, but even more when tripping. Lsd or shrooms. I find myself taking endless GB's and hits from the vape.

I have really enjoyed smoking cannabis with mushrooms; it has really kick started many trips, and lengthens and intensifies the trip. I have been a daily smoker for over 20 years too. But this year, for whatever reason, something has changed and I am really frightened of mixing cannabis and mushrooms again. I’ve had about 6 out of 7 really intense unenjoyable trips. About a month ago my first bad trip in about 30 years; and I hadn’t even smoked cannabis.
Anyone experience anything like what has happened to me? DJ Ed

Cannabis is constantly in my system and I've never budgeted use when planning on a trip. I feel it's comforting and familiar to grab a toke here and there during the trip. Makes for a symbiotic experience as opposed to alcohol which always derails me. Smoke up
@DJ damn dude that's a bummer. 20 years makes you a veteran with experience. First bad trip in 30 years was last month and 6 or 7 bad trips since then? Unless I'm misunderstanding maybe space it out a lot more?

Yeah that’s the first thing; I’ve gone from fortnightly trips to monthly trips. The Six or seven intense trips were before the bad trip. First tried not smoking until the peak. Then tried waiting until the peak was on its way down. Then tried no cannabis at all. I have to be fair I’ve been using really old dried stocks - it’s all the small (and potent) left over mushrooms; a couple of doses of which have felt like I had been directly injected with psilocybin! No euphoria, no lessons, no after glow, just focussing on riding it out.
I think it has become regular such that I am now expecting it. So yeah finding it hard to let go at the moment, and that is obviously compounding matters. The subconscious (fear) is such a powerful force, even for someone who has tripped for over 30 years!
I’ve got a couple of tubs in fruiting; some PES Amazonian, which should be ready next week, and a tub of Red Boy that should be ready a week or so after. So my plan to reset all this mounting fear is to have a trip from fresh; they are always welcoming yet intense trips, and always enjoyable.
Also I think lockdown has impacted negatively on my set. I usually trip alone and at night; under lockdown both my wife and 14 year old daughter are at home, and I find it very difficult to let go into a trip. Suppose subconsciously that I am trying not to trip when I am tripping, if that makes sense. Suppose I could always ride it out until lockdown is relaxed, then start tripping again. Let’s see how the trip from fresh goes before I make any drastic decisions : the psychedelic headspace is where I came from when I was born into this world, where I am going to when I leave this world, and is somewhere I like to go while I am still alive. Don’t want to have to wait until I’m physically dead before experiencing the oneness again; I’ll sort it out dude.
Hopefully I’ll move away from and back to

My other thought was something going on in your life taxing the subconscious. Reading that leads me to think that's what's up. I couldn't imagine a trip with a houseful of people especially my own teenage daughter. Maybe give it a few weeks and plan a camping trip or something cerimonial. Can't let that magic get routine.

It should all get easier in a few years when my daughter is of age; I’ll be discussing mushrooms with her, and my life long experiment with them. I’ve already had many talks with her over recreational drugs, and the drug laws - the war on drugs! I want her to be able to make her own mind up, independent of the hysterical biased media.......
Never want to lose the magic! A camping trip alone, up on the moors, sat around a fire, under the stars......sounds delightful :-)

This.
I'm a daily recreational smoker. Self-employed, so I can get away with smoking all day if I want. I'd say I go through about 1.5g a day on average.
My last trip in December was my most intense yet.

Thanks heaps for all your posts! I've been reading and thinking about this a lot.
From your posts here, Shroomery trip reports and the patchy scientific literature I've tried to understand, it seems clear that THC and psilocybin basically latch on to different parts of the brain - and a tolerance to cannabis does not mean a tolerance to psilocybin - yet subjectively there's a kind of mental synergy in them both combined.
As much as I love getting high on cannabis, I do find my mind is clearer after a couple of days abstinence. So I think I'll take a break from vaping for a couple of days before I take some subs. I'm undecided if I'll smoke pot during the trip.

Yeah, I totally see your point. I find cannabis gives a particular sensation of insight that doesn't necessarily seem so profound the next day! I think I want to know what the effect purely of psilocybin is on my mind.
However, I think I know what you mean @GreenHorns Quote:
I feel it's comforting and familiar to grab a toke here and there during the trip.
based on LSD trips where I've found the comedown is quite, um, raw or ... abrasive. It's been a while, but I vividly remember pot seeming incredibly soothing and stabilizing. Might just be me but I seem to remember tea being super nice too!
@DJ EdS Quote:
...both my wife and 14 year old daughter are at home, and I find it very difficult to let go into a trip.
I'm in a similar situation with flatmates. They are lovely, but if they know I vape pot then they haven't said anything! My home definitely isn't comfortable for real tripping. This is the real conundrum!
To be quite honest, I think I'm a bit depressed, and combined with the flatting situation, I'm considering asking a certain understanding friend to chaperone as I trip. Even though I'd have to wait a couple of weeks then drive to another city I think the company and setting would be worth it.
If I experience anything amazingly positive or negative I'll drop a note on this thread.
Thanks again for all your responses.

It's an energy thing. if the cannabis makes you drag your feet, lay off for a few days.

Yeah you nailed it. The psychedelic tendencies of weed fall considerably short of triptamines. You may experience these great insights and shit but they vanish away, whereas with mushrooms you can capture them, take them home, and use them.
