ID request - Florida Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cyanescens
    #26716562 - 06/03/20 11:35 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hey there,
Went on a hike in central Florida and  found these in an active cow pasture. I found a large 77g, what I believe is a beautiful cube, but I want some reassurance as it is only my second trip finding cubes.

Also, is there a time when the active mushrooms become non edible? Although it was still fresh, the large one seems towards its end of life, do they lose potency when mature??

The others I am almost positive they are cubes and pans, but any opinions or knowledge is always welcome.

Thanks!!

Correct on both ID's, well the Panaeolus could be a different active Panaeolus, but doesn't matter.
The wild Florida Panaeolus are my absolute favorite mushroom to eat. :awesomenod:

Hey thanks !! I appreciate the response.

Do you like to eat the wild pans fresh? I have read that drying them causes them to not be as enjoyable but do not have personal experience.

I Always Recommend Making Tea With Wild Mushrooms, Because They Can Contain Bacteria.

Thanks MpSeph, do you mean always make wild mushrooms fresh into tea? Or can I dry them?  Should I be worried about the bacteria if I just wipe them off, dry them and store them?

9/10 Times, Fresh Mushrooms Will Contain Macroscopic & Microscopic Bugs, Larva, & Other Critters. They Will Also Contain Bacteria. (Any Animal Could Walk By & Piss/Shit On The Mushrooms Before You Found Them.)

Drying Mushrooms 100% Cracker Dry Will Kill Most Of The Bugs, Or Make Them Crawl Out. However, They May Still Contain Bacteria.

Making Tea With Fresh Or Dry Mushrooms Kills Any Leftover Bacteria.

I Always Dry Mushrooms 100% Cracker Dry With A Dehydrator

Thanks so much for that !!! That is very useful information in my newly found hunting hobby.

I just plugged the dehydrator on and will see how they turn out !

 Usually Takes 12+ Hrs Drying Time To Get To 100% Cracker Dry, Especially For Big Cubes

Edit: 12+ Hrs For My Dehydrator Anyway. I've Got An Older Style One.
