Not as much ironic, shroom cultivation is a form of independence. That helps you with any crisis where you have to rely on yourself.
Are you a consumer or do you do the work to grow it, the difference between being a sponge and being a hand.

The Asante Submarine emerged to take in some fresh provisions from food delivery (safer option than getting it yourself). If you are still gimped by a bike accident (but on steroids ) its rather nice having a young dude show up at your door with a pull-in trolley stacked to his chin with crates of food, straight from the truck I deliberately chose early morning delivery as they'd be fully stocked and basically move my large order straight from the supply truck to the delivery truck, so that they ordered my order in surplus so that the store would be none the emptier - and the delivery dude had only been in contact with a couple customers to limit exposure.
Box of 30 eggs, 3 lbs of butter, pound packs of fresh mixed soup veggies for freezing, quark, milk, applesauce portions, tangerines, freezable bread, all the goodies that make it nice and I managed to fill up an entire 31 liter vat with 25lbs of oatmeal for all my congealing needs
I wanted to reload freezer, fridge and cupboards to full capacity NOW because I expect shit getting real where I live in the coming couple months.
Its an exponential curve. The known cases are a fraction of the number of actual cases. | Quasi-lockdown works well so far but I want to hopefully see it peak and die down a bit while I'm safe inside, recovering from my bike crash injuries.
I learned my lesson. Social isolation for me.
Well, Submarine Asante took in provisions, time to submerge for 1-2 months!

I think it's probably a bit of a uniquely north american problem? At least it's particularly bad here, in terms of sugar. Can't fucking buy anything(that's not some expensive health food - and even those can be sketchy in terms of actual nutritional content) without 2 tons of added sugar.
Yogurt? Nope. Oatmeal? Nope. Even a lot of bread!
All are easily doable at home, and there are unsweetened or at least sane options out there...but it's like walking a minefield. Seriously might as well be dessert. So unbelievably annoying.

Oh I'm not saying there's not options. It's just you've got to at least be semi-vigilant, which a lot of people aren't - and a lot of healthy choices are not actually healthy(looking at you, Chobani). And with recent panic driven shortages in my area, it's been harder to find my normal go to brands in lieu of higher sugar one(often deceptively marketed as healthy) - obviously it's not an excuse to shovel garbage down, it's just kind of a bummer man.
My roommate also has, up until very recently, done all the grocery shopping in lieu of paying utilities, and omg there is so much faux-healthy, sugar laden shit in our cupboards. I just don't really think I've started noticing it until recently when I was packing everything up and cleaning out the fridge to get out of town.

I just managed to fill up a 20 liter (5.25gal) foodgrade jerrycan with 7x 1kg (15.4lbs) bags of freezedried vegetable mix from a restaurant supplier.
15lbs freeze dried vegetables = 150lbs fresh vegetables.
Since restaurants are mostly closed, Restaurant Suppliers want to unload to keep their businesses going. You'll be ordering LIKE a restaurant anuway, the big bags and packages, so they don't mind.
Use the Internet!
I chose a freeze dried vegetable mix for making rice, since thats my staple, its high volume so affordable and has leek among it, leek lectin having anti-COVID action (thank you Morrowasted)

The restaurant supplier thing is a good idea.
I actually have been getting my groceries mostly from a very small, rural restaurant that's turned into mostly a curb side grocery store. They seem to be doing really well, and they sell some pretty high quality stuff for more reasonable prices than grocery stores.

Yeah it's good to see that they're doing okay! They're bringing back a decent chunk of their staff. They're actually talking about opening up a permanent market because people love it so much. It helps that it's like 15 miles from the nearest store too, so it's got an entire community that already wants and needs a small market to serve.
I heard that Panera Bread was going to start doing something similar, actually.

Fortunately I don't have to dash for anything as of yet. Edit: except toilet paper. I have rifles and fishing poles and can dig up worms in my own backyard.

Ive been making my own sugar free yogurt in my instant pot (some models have a yogurt function) I take 2L of high fat milk put it in the pot, press the saute function, bring it up to 180 degrees for 2 minutes, let it cool to 100 degrees or so, add in 2 tablespoons greek yogurt, press the yogurt function, let it sit for 8 hours, then put it in the fridge to chill, sometimes I like it sweet so I will add fruit or honey though, Ive been wondering if I could add some cream to it in the beginning, to bump up the fat content, but im unsure if it will work, I read people who like it sweetened add condensed milk
