Subs ID request (Melbourne) and another question...
    #26714544 - 06/02/20 04:12 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys!
I'd love to get these guys confirmed as subs.

As well as that, I'd love some further education to help out with future identification...

First question
Is blue bruising okay if it's not really on the stem much, but on the gills? A lot of my finds contain dark blue (almost black) patches on the gills and sometimes on the top of the cap. Does this count or does it need to be on the stem? So far I'll see it on the gills but not 'confirm' it until I see it on the stem.

Second question
What's with the gold bruising? Is this typical of tall grass subs? A lot of the subs I find bruise mostly gold on the stem, and then contain shades of blue throughout.

After picking hundreds my gut says 'that's definitely a sub', but the gold and sometimes minimal amount of blue bruising throws me a bit.

Last question
Is there any other lookalikes I should educate myself on?
Because, correct me if I'm wrong, galerinas seem VERY easy to distinguish from subs after a bit of experience. Sometimes they have an annulus which is the dead give away, they
PS; If in doubt I do chuck it out. If I don't see significant blue I ditch it, but I think I might be becoming more and more obsessed over seeing blue that sicks out like a sore thumb and doubting everything other than that.

PPS; all shrooms are producing the same spore print in the photos linked above.

Thanks guys!

I can't get photos to load, and I probably couldn't confirm anyways as I'm more of a southeast US specialist.

1) It counts no matter what part of the mushroom it's on, as long as it's actual bruising, and not just the color of the mushroom.

2) The gold/brown bruising is common in the Genus Psilocybe, and most mushrooms, both are oxidation. You can't really use the brown bruising as an identifying characteristic, unless it's more pronounced such as on Boletus or Agaricus.

3) Galerinas are likely the closest dangerous look-a-likes to Psilocybes. But I'm not to familiar with AUS.

Hey Anglerfish, annoyingly, I always try to but for some reason, my computer hates that upload process and it never works. Even when I compress.

Are the photos and videos in the link above not able to be seen by all?

And/or is there another way I can do this?

Thanks! That's super helpful even without the ID.
I think the photos should be viewable now? As mentioned above I'm having upload issues going directly to the site unfortunately.
