Flushes going to crap.
    #26714562 - 06/02/20 04:19 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

So all my fresh cakes do extremely well. Once I do a second flush 12+ hours they get really soft and produce garbage pins. When I first started my flushes did a lot better under what I assume were worse conditions. I got 6 out of one cake, now with a larger fruiting chamber more FAE, deeper perlite my secondaries are almost mushy and slightly grey. They smell is perfect. I am misting 3-4 times a day then using a USB hand fan to fan them. This is a picture of the case, I added more holes and another inch of perlite. The top is the same size as the bottom. As I mentioned the first flushes all turn out great.

Usually first flushes are the strongest, they have the most access to the nutrients in your substrate/grain. With that in mind, subsequent flushes will be slightly weaker.

They are almost completely crapping out for some reason. Usually I get great flushes. For some reason I am getting a massive first flush and its killing the cake enough that they are not reproducing. I am trying to figure out where I messed up. I think maybe too much spraying?

When second flushes+ don't do well 99.9% of the time it's due to lack of water, not nutrients, Fungi can make a lot with very little when it comes to nutrients, but water is the main bottleneck. Are you re-soaking after the first flush is done?

How much weight are you getting??

I’ve had clones that will first flush put out 500g wet from one quart spawn and then a tiny second flush and then it’s done.

But the total yield is the same as normal tubs that go three decent flushes.

What is in the top right corner of your picture?

The fruits look overly wet and if you cake came apart easily I think you are getting your whole fC overly hydrated. Almost to much RH and not enough FAE.

This can also be the cause of the mottled caps on your fruits.

Looks like a homemade humidifier, air bubble stone in a jar of water. Probably unnecessary, but still neat.

a 12 hr soak might be too much, if the cake is feeling smooshy afterwards.

I figured why not . I am not sure if it helps or hinders and it was a choice on my own. I did not realize it has been a thing for awhile. I like the idea it does lose water daily so it is doing something. I think my problem is too much water on the cakes. So when you mist and fan what kind of moisture is left on the cakes? Should I just avoid direct spraying and just hit the sides and the top since its huge? Thanks for the input. I have been doing well with it but sometimes one change changes something else.

Turn off the bubbler and stop misting for a few days.

To elaborate, fruiting cycles are a reproductive process. If the Mycelium notices an environmental change it will produce fruits to further the survival of its species.

So if you let the chamber dry out a bit your going to trigger proper fruit formation and then bring the RH back up to give the right emvironment for fruit formation.

Thank you I will give it a try. I can always use the extra space where the bubbler went.
