EBT?

I have a homegirl that lives in sf and she claims she's against the government but seems to be doing things that are the opposite of that
halfway through covid she got on ebt and she's receiving unemployment
not saying anything is wrong with that because ive also been on ebt before because I love food and ive been broke for 100% of my life, but i feel like depending on the government while trying to not depend on the government doesn't make sense to me anymore + vocalizing such views but doing the opposite is weird
I watched a video a photographer ive followed for a while posted and she was saying how a lot of these people say they're against the government (because of the protesting and rioting + the looting) and "show it" by destroying these businesses and such but if someone was really about it they would be going vegan, hopping off of government funds, growing their own food etc.
at first I was like eh idk but now im starting to feel like maybe she is right. *I could have a biased opinion because it was easy for me to change my lifestyle and not work a job where I have to pay taxes, its accessible for me to shop with smaller businesses, and im able to grow my own food
does anyone have an opinion on this?
i don't mean to be insensitive to people who do actually need government funds but im trying to understand how someone who has a job and chooses to live in an expensive ass city, has the time to talk shit about the government but has signed up to receive benefits from them

You don't have to like someone to need something from them. And the government is part of society not representative of it. I don't have to be hypocritical for being part of society and using its resources just because I recognize fallacy, no? Like, the lunch lady is a bitch but it's not like you bring a lunch. People shouldn't have to suffer just because inequality is something not being fixed. Privileged people like to say that this person doesn't deserve that, but in reality it comes down to opportunity and classism. There may not be enough to go around but that's what being humanitarian is about. You know, not being pointlessly selfish just because it's easier.

I think it's logically consistent to criticize certain aspects of the US government while also benefiting from some of their social programs.
There are some things I like about the US government. I like that there are social programs available for people struggling with mental health (they could definitely be improved, but I'm glad they exist), and I'm glad the EBT program exists. There are also a lot of things I don't like, such as the police brutality, the unjust drug laws (and mass incarceration that comes with them), and the electoral college system.
I don't know your homegirl, but I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt: when she claims she's "against the government", maybe she's just saying that she's critical of the aspects she deems worthy of criticism while understanding that there are some things our government does alright (like the EBT program - not saying it's perfect, but again, I'm glad it exists).

yeah, you're totally right. I appreciate the analogy and the feed back, I didnt really want to stick to feeling that way about the situation without seeing another perspective

Initially, that was why I had signed up for ebt but its been so long since ive had it that I think ive kinda put that positive out of my mind. You're definitely right, I know she means well, her delivery is just sometimes extreme lol I always end up coming around though I feel like

You can be for the military of a country and against the politicians. Military coups are a regular occurrence.
