BRF cake 3rd flush, white mold?
    #26713930 - 06/02/20 12:16 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I just set these cakes in my SGFC a few days ago for their 3rd flush, so far my flushes have all been decent and healthy looking.

I noticed this white growth last night. This morning it had grown a lot and the sgfc didn't smell very good, so I took them out, but I think it's too late. The other few cakes look like they the same growth starting.

Can someone ID? I did some searching on the site and didn't see anything that looked really similar, but I'm thinking it's white mold and I should toss them

It's Trichoderma, it just hasn't made spores yet. Once it does it'll turn green.

How awesome...

So all the cakes in this FC are trash now right? I think I see it on 2 out of 3 that are left in there

BTW, thank you for the help

Yeah the infected cakes are done, what I've personally done with cakes like these is bury them outside(very shallow) in a shady area and sometimes you can salvage a few decent fruits from them. This requires that you live in some part of the world with good heat and humidity outside of course.

The reason this sometimes works is because the mushrooms can handle the large amounts of FAE outdoors, but the Trich struggles with it.
Often when a fungi realizes it's infected it will attempt to rush out some fruits to secure the next generation through spores, as a last resort.

If you don't live a nice humid warm area, just throw them away.
