First timer monotub tek - slow growth and mostly side pins. mind taking a look?

Hey there, thanks for reading!
This is my first time growing and I chose the monotub tek. Colonizing the grain spawn was easy, as was colonizing the bulk substrate. Once fully colonized I cased the substrate in coco coir.
Here is where my journey started getting wacky and my questions begin!
- 1. TOO MUCH CASING? I think I used too much coco coir casing. In some places, it was almost 1.5 inches deep. About 10 days after casing I didn't see any pins. So I threw on some gloves, sanitized my hands and removed about an inch. Was this a good move?
- 2. TOO MUCH MOISTURE/LACK OF FAE? I purchased a reptile fogger (this one) and a humidity control unit (this one). I set them up so that any time relative humidity dropped below 85% it would turn on the fogger and turn off again at 90%. However, I wasn't fanning, nor did I have a fan running in the room (I did have the tub lid cracked and polyfill holes present.) Although humidity was on point, I think my FAE was lacking. Do you guys agree?
- 3. POOR SURFACE CONDITIONS? Twelve days after casing I finally started to see pins, but they are ALL SIDE PINS! Unfortunately, I didn't' know about lining my tub before I started all this. I'll definitely line it next time. I've laid a piece of wax paper on top of my casing in hopes that it increases surface humidity. I also noticed water in the bottom of my tub. I sanitized a drill bit and drilled a 1/8" hole in the bottom corner, drained the excess water and patched it back up with duck tape. Anything else I can do to encourage surface pinning?
Below are photos of my tub's current conditions. I feel like these guys are growing slowly, but again, this is my first tub so I have no idea.
- There is a fan running in the room (pointed away from the tub, it's just to increase airflow in my tiny bathroom.)
- I have the tub lid cracked to increase FAE.
- I've got a 6000K LED light bar turned on 24/7.
Any other recommendations?

1.) The depth of your casing will depend on the depth of your substrate, so I can't accurately answer. Once again, not sure if it was a good move to remove some of the casing (also I do pseudo casings, so there will be better cultivators to ask about this question), but if you're asking about whether it was a bad move because it could lead to contamination, then nah that wouldn't cause any problems in that department.
2.) It's possible that you oversaturated your substrate. It's hard to tell without pictures of your sub while you were using your mister and stuff. It's really not necessary to use all of that. All you need to keep a tub in pristine conditions is a mister bottle with water and a way for the tub to get adequate FAE. Once the fruits mature they may give you an idea if your substrate was overhydrated.
3.) If the pins are coming out on the sides it means that the sides of your substrate provided more promising conditions than did the surface of your substrate. That doesn't necessarily mean the conditions on the top of your substrate were poor. It could just mean that they were simply better on the sides. While a liner can help with that, I don't think it's absolutely necessary. As in including a liner won't magically solve side pin problems if you aren't knowledgeable on how to maintain ideal conditions on the top of the substrate.
It's not a problem. Shit happens. Side pins happen. Look at it as a learning opportunity and start figuring out where you went wrong and the steps to take on your next grow to correct those mistakes. You're still sitting pretty. No stress.

Yep oversaturated for sure.
Turn on the light when your awake turn it off when you go to sleep.
Remove wax paper and take the lid and flip it or even remove it for a few hours a day until the surface of your substrate dries out a little. Your side pins look overly saturated as well. The should grow when you get the fogger out of the chamber.
No fogger!

Coir isn’t really good for casing, and 1.5 inches that late into it would definitely add some time cuz it’s gotta colonize all that new stuff.
If I case it’s usually 1/3 inch of 5050 peat/verm.
I would skip casing for now it’s not needed, and just add a little top layer of coir at spawn.
