Hey all!
Tried out a new spot in the Uriarra Forest area for hunting psilocybe subaeruginosa.
Got a pretty great haul but I'm still fairly new so I had some questions re: identification.
The first, obviously, is are these all subs? I've never seen so many different shapes and sizes and colours.
One thing I noticed that was different from where I usually find subs (in tall grass mostly) was the ones that were deep in tree debris usually had some brown staining, it looked like from the wet wood rubbing off on the stem. At first I left most of them because the brown stem scared me until I found a few that were only half dyed and it was obviously from an exterior source, whereas the rest of the stem was white with the blue tint. I've taken close ups of a few of them. My questions are is this normal and what causes the brown discolouration on the stems?
The second is, I found many of the large ones were going fairly dark / black in some spots. Are they too far gone? (Most photos of them are later in the series). Secondly, what am I looking out for in order to tell if they are too far gone? Just signs of mold? Would it be similar to mold on fruit and veges?
Finally I've included a few photos of a strange, alien looking mushroom. It has all the colouring and the typical stem of a sub, but the head of these three was sponge like and very creepy looking. Are these subs and if they are, what made them form like this?
Thanks in advance for all your help. Sorry about so many photos I like to be thorough.
Also I can provide updated photos now that they've been drying a few hours, if needed. Many of the dark dark ones have lightened right as they dry.

All subs They're just waterlogged these days. Got several requests the last day asking about dark subs. As for the freaky, morel looking one, I can't really tell, your photos are too small.

nice find man. Mind answering a question for a noob hunter from your area. Do you walk along the mapped 4WD pathways along the forest and look for mushrooms on the sides or do you walk deep into the forests away from the paths. After spending hours on the mapped paths and finding close to nothing, I have tried going into the forest but I am not too confident walking in too far deep in with all the long grass around. any words of encouragement or wisdom would be great thanks.

Honestly my man, it's just a game of persistence. I do both methods, I usually walk the path and if I see one I let that be the place I enter the forest. Usually they grow in concentrated areas so if you find one give the rest of the area a good look over.
I usually pack enough food and water for a day and just head out with no time constraints.
And, as they say, walk slow but look fast.
Good luck!!
