It's a dick move but
... Why dont you just lace rat poison with mushroom extract or lsd or whatever so you MAKE SURE it trips before it dies? :ancientaliens:

Give the rats a free choice of eating mushrooms in a rat sanctuary with all their needs met otherwise, and if they choose to eat the mushrooms, develop higher reasoning and discover agriculture, then let them live.

Was there some reason you didn't CO2 them or anesthetize with ketamine first?  Would either interfere in results (assuming this lab work) It just seems unethical when really easy means of making it slightly more humane are readily available.
