Subs with very dark caps?!

Found a new patch today! Pretty pleased with myself. I am awaiting a spore print but I am pretty certain what I found were subs. I’m just wondering - all these guys have pretty dark caps. Is it common? Does anyone know why it happens, is it due to them receiving a lack of sunlight? Previously I’ve seen them with brown caps but these are very dark, almost greenish black. They were sitting in pine and tan bark litter.
Ooh forgot to add! I noticed there were some B I G subs that had been ripped out with the mycelium still attached and left on the ground to rot. I reckon someone else has tried to go hunting here, weren’t sure what they were doing so just left them. Pls don’t rip them, just leave them for us to pick nicely 🐸

If they were growing near p. subaeruginosa it's definitely them. They are definitely psilocybes, i dont personally know enough about p. subaeruginosa to say they are for sure subs, but they are clearly an active psilocybe species
This happens often with p. ovoideocystidiata i find on the east coast of the US, i think it's a combination of genetics and environmental factors, like excess rain

Guess it's raining down under, been a few dark subs requests as of late. But yes, waterlogged subs.

I think its just the phenotype/fruiting, subs on woodchips can have dark brown caps. Is quite rare with "wild" finds though. If its greenish than that is oxidation. They can go a dark blue (navy) from oxidization also.
If its to do with waterlogging, then there'd be a correlation between increased rainfall and darkness of caps. Never have i observed such a phenomenon.

All of a sudden there's just a heap of weathered, dark sub requests all over. Just a week ago, most requests were normal coloured subs. Just a coincidence, or did this special phenotype just take over? I've seen this in several mushrooms, especially the panaeolus cyanescens. Go picking those after a tropic storm, all black and blue. Heavy rain for days will make liberty caps go darker than usual too, but not so much because of psilocin oxidation.

I agree weather conditions can cause oxidation which makes the cap have darker colours. But ive never seen the actual cap colour itself go darker due to weather conditions.

Thanks! So you’re pretty sure they’re subs too? This is how the spore print turned out. Looks the same as other sub spore prints I’ve done (same colour). Just want to be extra careful and get someone else’s opinion.

Yup, they’re blue. Hard to tell by the photo but they are bruising blue and have even made the paper towel a little blue too.
