Perplexed By Deformities
    #26696293 - 05/26/20 05:45 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Greetings all! I've scoured the forum here but only found few good answers because I know the variables involved can be diverse when trying to pinpoint a problem. So any brief insight or similar experience that would allow someone to impart some wisdom on me, would be greatly appreciated. I'll make it as brief as I can. Newbie here, and first run with bulk trays/casing in a Martha. Everything went fabulous, from jars using millet tek, g2g in large bags, to making viable bulk substrate (coir/poo mix w/ a few additives) Mycelium growth was rapid and contam. free in every step of the process, until.... I put the trays in my Martha after they were fully colonized and casing layers started to show signs of rhizo. growth. Fruiting conditions seem optimal, w/ RH @ no less than 90 and up to 95. Temp is an average 69. Fresh air with in/outs in my Martha four times per day for 30 minutes each blast, on a timer. Strain was from a buddy, and supposed to be the Albinos, but here's the problem: Out of eight trays, there has been nothing produced but countless little mutants and tiny specimen. Some trays have seemingly completely stalled, with no signs of tam. ANYWHERE on ANY of them. The same buddy says he is experiencing the same problem w/ the same strain, and he is much more experienced and has had ample success with this hobby. He says it's the strain. I want to believe him, and not believe it's poor technique on my part, even though I'm a newb. and this is to be expected. Still, all went wonderfully across the board until fruiting time. Still no sign of tam. anywhere but just no growth. Trays remain hydrated. Any experience with these mutated bad boys, or any help in general after your assessment, I'd be gracious.

I'm not a pro, but humidity at +90% seems like overkill

Do you know if its albino penis envy?
Since you said mutants it sounds like you may be getting blobs which normal and are still worth harvesting. Not that uncommon for the first flush of PE to be mostly blobs.

If it is APE that would explain the stalling. Since penis envy varieties known to have a "lag" time once they hit full colonization. They can be finicky and may take their time.

Also FAE should be passive and happening constantly for optimal results not just 4 times a day

Your temp is low 75-81 right for fruiting conditions.

Many people have fruited cubensis at lower temperatures without any issues me included. 69 is fine and the core of the sub is likely a bit warmer than that.

I've found little difference in fruiting performance with cubes between about 70F and 90F.  They'll fruit well at temperatures that would cause the mycelium to stall during colonization.  You'll notice somewhat smaller, but denser fruits with better overall quality at lower fruiting temps.

Temps were average 80 during coloration, and an average of 69 in my Martha.
