Advice on Cakes that are (I'm hoping) bruised and perhaps dry. PHOTOS
    #26709139 - 05/31/20 01:25 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Good evening hive. London calling

SWIM birthed these cakes exactly 7 days ago after a dunk and roll. Everything was fine for the first 48-72 hours where the verm. was starting to become enveloped/covered in a nice white, light fluff. After that and since, the cakes now look like they're covered in a dry, light-gray, pasty toothpaste. It looks like there is nothing growing at all now. Misting regularly and fanning. In London it's been about 75F-82F the last few days. Even after misting/spraying the cakes AND SGFC lots and lots, the cakes still look like matt paint and dried plaster.

Should I chuck them out? Dunk and roll again? They had a full week after colonising.

Any help pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Please and thank-you.

If someone else birthed them you most certainly should not toss them out. Them's fighting words

They look okay to me. The 3rd up from the bottom looks a little sketchy maybe.

They all look fine. Cakes can take up to 15 days to pin.

They look fine; continue to mist/fan on a daily basis. Also, I would put your cakes on something other than foil, I've heard that the cakes can consume the tin foil and its not good for consumption through the mushrooms. I don't know how accurate that is, but better to be safe than sorry!

much appreciated. I've got some old CDs that i've been told as an alternative to tinfoil. So I guess it's okay to gently hold/touch/manoeuvre then with clean/scrubbed hands?

Thanks

Yeah of course, try not to touch as much as possible. However, if your hands are clean with soap and warm water or hand sanitizer, you can touch them when you need to and it won’t hurt them. When you’re picking them up, pick them up like you would a baby bird and you shouldn’t bruise them.
