PC Build Advice * 1
    #26710294 - 06/01/20 01:12 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

With games such as Bloodlines 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 on the horizon, I’m feeling the need to build a new gaming PC.

Below you will find the list I am currently looking at. I have little to no clue about any of this stuff and mostly made this list based upon that parts had a large number of high ratings.

EDIT: after taking with a friend this is the current build I’m looking at

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/H3bq27

Thoughts and suggestions would be very very appreciated?

Are there any obvious upgrades spacing?

Would be a solid gaming pc... you should check out IBUYPOWER website. They sell powerful gaming PCs on their website and often have sales. If your going for the 3k range, you can probably find one that's equivelent or even better if your lucky. Either way doesnt hurt to look.

Thanks for the comment! Ya am aware of that site, I’ve used them in the past but I was kinda looking to take the plunge into actually building my own machine this time around.

Ahh ok I know the feeling about building your own. Honestly that PC will run any game you want. If you wanted to be able to run games in ultra HD 4k with max fps you'd need twin GPUs. I have a similar setup to the one you posted with a single 2080ti and some high demand games get choppy on full settings. Not unplayable but annoying.

Hello SARAtonin.

If I was you, I'd probably would not get the

Intel Optane 905P 1.5 TB PCI-E NVME Solid State Drive  and the  G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory.

You should be able to save quite a bit of money by only getting a 500g or 1TB solid state drive, and then get a 2tb platter style hard drive.

As for the ram, do you really need 32 gigs?

If your planning to have enough memory for future game releases in the years to come, then I could see why you might want that much ram, but if not, I'm lead to believe that 16 gigs is more then enough for even current games.  The only other reason for more ram is for video editing.

The other thing is what resolution do you mainly play games at?  If 1080p then you probably don't need such an expensive gfx card. if you do want to go higher, then that card (one you're planning to buy) will do all games at maximum settings at every resolution other then 4k.

Maybe don't get a top of the line gpu right now, and just get a card that will handle 1080p or 2k gaming for now and then in two or so years buy a more powerful gpu then, which should be much better suited to 4k gaming by then.

I recently got a new PC, runs like a dream. i7 9700k, 2080 SUPER and 1TB 970 EVO Plus NVME.

Heed warning though, new NVIDIA and Radeons are out soon, from what I understand, in a few months so you may want to wait? Personally, I didn't but may get 3080ti when they come!

Ditch that 2k drive. Holy shit, what a waste of money.  Get 2 smaller drives if you want that much SSD space.

32G ram is fine. I have 32 in my gaming system.

SPEND MORE ON YOUR POWER SUPPLY.  People underestimate how important the quality of a power supply actually is.  Get a nice high end one because if your cheap powersupply eats shit, chances are high its taking a huge chunk of your other parts with it.

Since money isn't really an issue for you, I'd def get the top end graphics card, though expect it to be outdated every few years.  I personally choose to upgrade mine every other generation, but get the higher end lines so in between I'm not taking FPS hits on new hard hitting games.

As long as youre okay with the budget then I say go for it. Like others have said, you do now want that drive. Assuming you have the dough, get a samsung nvme, and a samsung evo or two. Should be around 3-4 hundred.

theres a few things to consider. if your only gaming and you want to spend that kind of money, you should go core i9-10900k. ryzen is right on intels heels but gets inched out in single threaded performance. that matters most in games and with a 2080 ti you will certainly be cpu bottle-necked unless your playing at 1440p high or 4k. also im pretty sure your not buying an intel optane drive for $2k+. i wouldnt even consider the intel optane really. at a certain point the speed gains are not noticeable to the user. a standard m.2 NVME ssd would give you the equivalent performance for the use case. just my two cents.

I spent $250 on a 2TB M2 SSD the other day.

Ive never seen a PCI-E ssd.  Is that supposed to make it even faster?

Far as I know, PCI-Express is the fastest interface available besides the RAM interface.

m.2 has 2 different kinds. SATA m.2s are just like normal SSDs just without the cables. the other type of M.2 drives ARE PCIE. thats what makes them so fast. also why you have to be conscious of the number of PCIE lanes your CPU provides AND the distribution on the motherboard. if i had put my M.2 in the wrong slot on my mobo it would take PCIE lanes away from the Graphics card, which in most cases doesnt hurt performance by a noticeable amount but still.

aaaaah. they do make those as pcie expansion cards. they hold multiple m.2s; usually 4. the only people who buys those really are video editors who need the pcie lanes to run 4 m.2's with 4 lanes each. and they often run them in raid to back up storage, speed up read and write speeds, or both. so the concept is the same. just instead of using the slots on the mobo you can add more m.2's in the same slots your graphics cards mount to.
