Amanita muscaria var Persicina?
    #26709557 - 05/31/20 04:55 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hello,
I work outside and underneath a conifer tree I found a bunch of red mushrooms. I sent a picture to a friend who knows a ton more about mycology, and he said he believes that it is amanita muscaria. I did my own research today, and I don't know, I feel like muscaria is a darker red and more spots.
However, I also found " https://www.mushroomexpert.com/amanita_muscaria_persicina.html ," which describes a variant of muscaria, which grows in my area under loblolly pines. These pictures look very similar to what I've found, and I would say I've already answered my question, but I still would like some more second opinions.

My question,
Are these mushrooms amanita muscaria var persicina?

I am working on the spore prints, I have them under bowls to hold the humidity.

I found them on a golf course, under a pine tree, a drier spot.

The cap is orange reddish.

Stipe is somewhat wide and whitish color. The skin scrapes off and sticks to your fingers.

Gills are the same color, whitish.

I Can't Tell Because Of How The Mushrooms Were Collected. For Identification Purpose, Especially With Amanita Sp, It Is Best To Uproot The Entire Mushroom, Showing The Volva Sack At The Bottom Of The Stipe.

The one with all the spots is definitely A. Muscaria. Amanita Muscaria has subspecies whose colors range from deep red to faint pale yellow, (as is the case with the mature specimens of Amanita Muscaria var Guessoui, which  I have found before in Northern Indiana, have ingested, and can confirm that it is a potent psychoactive shroom).

I can't tell for sure based on the current photos but the small size, time of year and lack of visible veil point towards Amanita parcivolvata. Assuming you're in the eastern NA, compare with https://www.mushroomexpert.com/amanita_parcivolvata.html
And let me know what you think.

I'm located outside of Atlanta, GA, is that east enough for parcivolvata?  They do look very similar, is parcivolvata poisonous? I did not see that written on mushroomexpert.
As for the size, I didn't want them to be destroyed by someone who doesn't care. Golfers seem to be largely drunk, like to destroy things on the course, particularly with golf carts, and taking pleasure in smashing something so beautiful sounds right up these rich folks' alley. I knew that A. muscaria can grow to a decent size, plainly visible, and I figured someone would see it and smush it.

How would you recommend going about uprooting the entire mushroom? Dig into the ground more and remove more flesh?
There are more sporophores out there, they were just even tinier. I can dig and retrieve more, if I know what to go for.

R: what I think,
They do look very similar. It looks like parcivolvata has less spots. The spots I mean when I say spots, are like little flecks on top of the cap. Like little chunks of flesh stuck on top.
I think I have a mix of parcivolvata and persicina. The photo where the stipe is still connected to the cap, leaning against the lighter, I think that one is parcivolvata. It has less spots.
Another thing mushroomexpert said, was that muscaria is stockier than parcivolvata, and most of these are short with widish stipes. I do have a few caps that came off thinner+taller stipes.
