ID request please - any potential actives here
    #26708598 - 05/31/20 07:10 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

ID request please - see pics below - are any of these potential actives???

(also is the bolete in pics 1 & 2, found growing in grass under an urban pine tree, a likely edible/culinary?)

Habitat: Soil & decaying wood under eucalyptus trees, inland North Shore, Sydney.

Gills: various - see pics

Stem: various - see pics

Caps: various - see pics

Spore print color: - pending

Bruising:(no, but slight blue on surface of some)

Other information: when fresh most of them had a clean, light 'mushroomy' smell

Negatory. You have a Cortinarius sp. These tend to grow in different soils to subs. Check out some of the sub guides on the forum and adjust your hunting location slightly.

Edit: Cortinarius rotundisporus and the big one is Gymnopilus jumonius (inactive), wouldnt bother with the boletus.

Thanks Sultan

What about specimens 7 & 12 ?
They have different coloured & shaped gills + hollow stems.

I appreciate your response

Thanks OOISI

Yes there were probably 20 - 30 specimens in a 2m patch under a small eucalypt tree, growing out of soil amongst grass.

I'm guessing these shrooms I saw in Southern Highlands (inland, slight elevation, 1.5hr south of Sydney) are also likely Hypholoma sp. ?

Hi Sultan

Which species/variants of Gymnopilus are active & how do I identify them?

Cheers

I would totally bother with the boletus.

1. Does it bruise blue?
2. Is the cap viscous/slimy when whet?

If the answer to both is no, you should check out the page on boletes at mushroomexpert.com

I can't wait for boletus season in the Northwoods

Thanks Woodlandcarrot

The bolete's cap does get viscous/slightly slimy when wet, but didn't bruise blue.

I had a look at https://www.mushroomexpert.com/boletes.html

Cheers
