Going to go for my fourth day hunting in a row this week, I know we haven't had much rain, but I'm worried the season will be over soon with the first frosts starting to come through.

I haven't had much luck this year, only managing to find a few pins here and there, my biggest haul being only about 3 medium shrooms.

Is it just me that's having such bad luck? I cant seem to work out why I cant find any. I'm going to try a different terrain today, less mountainous, so hopefully Ive just been going to far into the bush to find any.

Yeah look on the edges or bush.

Interestingly also roads that have the soft edges graded into mounds seem to be good too, aassuming the right area/foliage around.  in fact and mounds of dirt in the right area.
Found a few the other day in a 2m pile of dirt on an side access road to a reserve

That seems to be where I have the most luck, It seems strange that they dont like being too far into the bush.

and, after returning from a long walk, I was unable to find any. Well, I have one more spot I can check tomorrow to hopefully find some, maybe I should just wait for more rains.

I did manage to find a cool convict era quarry & house ruins in the bush which made the trip worth it though.

I've read somewhere that perhaps subaeruginosa can be found consistently surrounding acacia maidenii,(a  species with active tryptamines). This has made me wonder if it was worth looking out for our acaica longfolia or other similar species as indicators. Has anyone else heard of this? anyone noticed an abundance or more potent shrooms surrounding any acaica species with trypatamines?

Had an absolutely incredible hunt yesterday.
Found 2 new spots with a lot of subs in moss and eucalyptus leaves and ferns.

I had never seen so big subs! The biggest one is 40 grams!:crazy2:

Far out - that's amazeballs DoM!

I was happy with my haul today - it's my third time hunting and I've only found the odd one up until now.  This is 18g - almost half of this came from one patch which was spread out quite widely around a fallen tree.

Has anyone noticed a difference in dry areas compared to wet areas?  I have been hunting mostly in drier open forest and noticed that they appear to be more spread out and less potent (going by the blue bruising) than the ones I've found in denser, wetter forest.  However, as i've only been on a few hunts, I don't know if that just happens to be what I've found so far...  Thoughts?

My finds today.

All found along country roads in the SE of the state!!

Looks like a few have been frost bitten by the recent cold nights :frown:

Do you spread the spores in winter or wait for a warmer period in the year?

now is the time as this is when the mushrooms are trying to reproduce by fruiting and letting out their spores naturally, by using spores in a spray bottle you are condensing the spores to one particular area ie woodchip bed ( somewhat controlling the natural process). the fruits of your labour(pardon the pun) will be rewarded and you will spread the gift to all.

it is now your duty to do this as you are a messenger. lol

The frosts will start to slow things down now, getting too cold and little rain last couple weeks. Still fruits around though.

Found very little difference in potency from substrate to substrate unless they’ve really dried out, I will say this though, there is a particular Pheno of subs I’ve picked from under wattle that grows like cigars, stout and turns black and dose for dose will destroy any other shroom I’ve had.

This lack of rain is really hurting the scene down South. Anybody had any luck over past few days?

Found a few on Friday along the southern side on some steep road side edges but they were new spots that definitely hadn't been picked before this season.
I have 2 good spots that have grown a few extra since my first pick but only about 25% of what I originally found in each spot.

I think the heavy dew has allowed some new growth but nothing like a bog rain would produce.

Going for a big drive tomorrow to look at some new spots I found on google maps and a spot that produced 30 good ones a month ago, so it will be interesting to see what has grown there.

I managed ro find several decent fruits this afternoon. Nature has a funny sense of humour in not rewarding me for my long searches over the past couple days, but I manage to find a nice patch <2km from my house.

A few were starting to die, pretty sure due to the recent cold snap. (I had some tomato’s and they didn’t survive the couple days)

I have added These to the few I had found previously and placed them in a container with a seperate container of sodium hydroxide next to them to dehydrate it, as well as places them on paper to obtain the spores.

I’ve seen some big ones but never weighed them for some reason

Did a short walk around the West coast yesterday in a pine forest. The majority seemed a little old with only a few pins poking up. Guessed I missed the window but still plenty around. Seemed to go through patches finding them in a certain area, nothing for 30 minutes, then I hit another patch. I was finding them in both shaded areas and spots where the sun came through and grass was growing and found all 3 types, the nipple, wavey and curved caps. Next time more photos  the season better not end anytime soon.

Not a bad day, found another new spot although walked around the bush at this spot and found 5, the rest were right along the road of course!!

Look at the length of this one!!  It was in an area I wasn't really looking in, just walking through some long grass to get to another area that looked good and looked down and there it was!!

They are getting fairly frost burnt and old and with no real rain on the forecast this week, I really hope this season isn't over!

Today's finds.  I was heading out to try a new track and decided to stop on the way at a quick 20 minute loop walk that I'd checked thoroughly a month ago (and found nothing).  A little voice told me to stop again (the mushrooms are talking to me :mushroom2:).  Got out of the car and first thing I see are two sizeable subs growing from a fallen branch.  Then 5 minutes in, a patch of 8 more

I'll be checking that spot again after some rain - that's if it ever rains down here again!

Needless to say, I found nothing on the track I was checking out - although it was an enjoyable 2.5 hours, and my dog now loves me (and is very tired).

I haven't found any around wattles yet - only eucalypts.  Something to look forward to!

Hmmm, do you happen to know the species of wattle that these are found around? It seems like there may be more truth to the idea that subs around acacia trees with significant tryptamine quantities may actually impact the potency of the shroom may have more truth to it than I thought.

Perhaps using the tryptamine rich bark as a substrate increases the amount of psilocybin present within the shroom. Maybe some controlled experiments with outdoors grow beds consisting of different substrates is in order...
