Yeah, I'm thinking everything is too hybridized. I have been smoking since1977-78. I do prefer the upper type high. I remember pure columbian being really nice, the old original skunk bud, columbian gold, puna pud, maui wowie, and panama red. *SIGH*.

More times than not you pay for quality. Sometimes people get dank weed but hats it and say its crap but is actually good weed just probably not what that person looks for in weed. People go on about how good gelato strain is but everytime I had it, it was crap haha

Needing a balance is absolutely right imo.
I’ll rarely smoke strong weed these days and if I do it’s a tiny hit before a movie or something.
I smoked for years and loved it and then when the medical stuff in ca came around weed got stronger every month and I started having basically bad trips. Quit smoking.
Then I looked into it the thc cbd balance is a huge deal. They work together.
Some of my friends love smoking 36% thc weed but these days I’m about the weaker balanced stuff.

Stuff that's 36% seems crazy strong haha. I like something like 15% to 20% thc, 1.1 or 2.1 CBD to thc. The medical really helps with being g able to stick to strains you know work for you.

Talking about not expensive weed - so I've been reading this thread and matching it up with my experiences over the last 9 months smoking small amounts of what are mostly avowed hybrids, and around $10/g here in legal heaven Oregon. Sometimes hits, sometimes misses, and sometimes it loses me entirely and I'm like "did I smoke anything?".
Some were avowedly psychedelic, which I really like. Some were extraordinary for music, second only to mushrooms, which I also really like. Some were like "lie down now and don't move" but I'm not into that. Some were profoundly relaxing in a really good way.
And I'm trying to keep my consumption down, both because of affecting my lungs and reducing the tolerance.
So I can't make out a pattern though between the strains. Sometimes the hybrids veer to the left or right of the indica/sativa "divide". I even ask the guy at the weed shop about "are there any pure sativas" and he was kind of like "but these are good hybrids leaning toward sativa" and I'm thinking "no this isn't something I can get..."
But I want to try as close to sativa grown today and compare it, 'cause I want the bubbly sort of trippy effects to cap my day off with.
And the advice is basically "experiment until you find what you like." Ah, drugs.
Down with this $3/g with high THC and called out as sativa. I'll look up the strain if anybody cares. But tried one hit - this shit is stellar!
I got 2 gms for some to send to my little sis in a medical-only state, but I'll go back and get some more for myself.
Now I need to see how it holds up over time, because that seems to be the downfall of heavy modern hybrids - inconsistency.

I’ve been seeing a lot of stuff about terpenes having a big effect on the high too, more than thc/cbd/cbn and whatever else.
My dispensary has a book with terpene levels of each strain they’ve got, like 15 or so. So they’ll say ok so you want a sativa, now why do you want it? Ok you want to listen to music and eat and sleep better so you need a sativa with high level of these corresponding terpenes.
Shits getting crazy.
