The main concern with cacti from a garden centre, in the UK at least, is mealy bugs. Keep new additions in quarantine from other plants and remove all the soil let the roots heal up, make sure bug free, then pot into a new, dry soil mix. Can bleach and reuse the old pot or go with a new one.

thanks guys! thats a relief!

thank you for the heads up mostly_harmless. i have san pedro, bolivian torch and peyote on the way. it would have been a shame to lose them over something like that.
i will get them out of that soil once i get a better soil to replace it with.
i repotted them about 1-2 weeks ago. is it too soon to repot them now?

thanks

You can unpot them whenever. Each time can add a delay until they are settled into a new pot, as it is good practice to let any possible root damage heal up after taking out of their old soil, before potting up into a new dry mix, and then letting rest again before their first drink.

thanks.

how long should i leave them out of the pot for to allow roots to heal? and what is the best way to store them while pot-less?

and how long should i leave them after potting into their new soil before giving them water?

thank you.

A few days is ok, for me it depends how long I forget about them for  Anywhere dry and airy is good.
How long until their first water depends on the species. Trichs are more hardy and may not need such babying. You will come to learn what you can get away with  Good practice to begin with though, minimise risk to new and valuable plants. Lophs I leave for another week before a drink, maybe longer, depends how plump they already are.

thanks. i will default to a week before watering unless they start to shrivel, then i will water earlier. or if they are already plump i will leave for longer.

thank you for the help <3
