?P. weraroa. Kaimai ranges, New Zealand.
    #26706182 - 05/30/20 01:21 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:
Found growing low altitude in NZ native bush at the base of the Kaimai ranges. Was growing out of an area of forest floor soil, with lots of leaf litter, decaying branches etc. Of note was a fallen punga about 1.5ft/0.5m away.

Gills:
Dark Chocolate colour

Stem:
3cm long, 3mm diameter, off white within cap, muddy brown below cap. Firm, dry texture.

Cap:
1cm wide at base, white, firm. shaped like a bullet or upside down rain-drop.

Spore print color:
Sorry not able to obtain a spore print from this specimen.

Bruising:
I think I can see some slight blue bruising where I pinched the stem, and also along edges of cap that have been cut...but not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me and lack confidence because I am new to this.

Other information:
Does not have a distinct scent. Very faint button-mushroom smell.

I am curious as to how to tell the difference between clavogaster virescens and psilocybe weraroa - if anyone could give me some pearls of wisdom here that would be much appreciated!

Thank you in advance for any help here.

Looks like it. Cool find, but apparently not a very potent species.

Thanks Anglerfish!

Do you have any tips on helping distinguish P. weraroa from C.virescens for a complete newbie like me?

From what I gather the gill structures & colour may be a good point of difference, with P.weraroa being darker brown and straight-gilled, and C.virescens being lighter brown and honeycomb-like in structure?
