Letting cakes dry out a bit?
    #26704524 - 05/29/20 12:32 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi guys, so i got these 7 cakes in my SGFC, and they are fruiting nicely. 3 of them i allready harvested and 2 more seem to be ready for harvest any day now.

But i got these two that's been really slow pinners, but they are coming along and pinning like crazy now.

Problem is, some of these cakes are really ready for a dunk so i can get the 2nd flush going. But, i would really like to dunk them all at the same time.

Can any harm be caused by letting those "spent" cakes sit there untill im done harvesting from all of them? By the looks of it the slow pinners are at least 4-5 days away from beeing ready for harvest.

Im abit afraid that if i dunk a few of them and then put them back in the FC that it might introduce contams to the otherwise healthy cakes i got in there.

Thanks for helping a noob out

Okay..
So your cakes are going to fruit at different times because multispore syringes do that even in monotubs.
You will need to dunk your cakes after you pick mature mushrooms, this will save you a lot of weight as the myc will continue to eat the given nutrients even if its not fruiting to survive. no nutrients = no fruits. I allow for about one day after picking fruits to dunk.
You shouldn't be worried about contaminating at this point because your cakes are already out in the open air where contaminates are flying around them already, even inside your SGFC.
BRF cakes will dry out quickly and with no water they will die.
