Finally after hours of searching and riding around, I have hit the jackpot and found a plethora of shrooms. Unfortunetly, more than half of what I found were small pins. Waiting on the next weather system to stimulate growth.

Nice finds. Every sub that i found was pretty deformed, mostly because the dry weather. Were these growing on woodchips or in the forest?

I found most of them in an area extremely similar to the area in Ooisi’s subaeruginosa guide “grassy eucalyptus forests“

Hello everyone, first post here. Big thanks to your posts, particularly Painkiller's post on page 5 of this thread, and Nickoloxious for posting some great links on how to find them. Gave me a lot of help starting out. I'm new to picking this season, and it took me a while to find any, but now I'm finding them pretty easily (northwest of Melbourne). A friend ended up taking me out and showing me the ropes. I didn't realise how much you can tell by just the feeling of the stems, kind of woody and waaay stronger than any other lookalikes. I also notice my fingers feel funny after holding them for a while. Maybe some of the chemicals are absorbing through my skin(?)

Here's the typical location I've found some of them, on little walking tracks between wet, grassy, Eucalyptus forests near creeks.

Now that I've got finding them down, I had some questions:

1) What's your limit for old looking subs? If you see the pic with the subs on the plate, some are old and looking pretty manky. Would you eat them?

2) Any thoughts what the spots on the top of the yellow one are? Most of the subs I've been finding haven't been the atypical caramel ones, but older yellowy ones. All still with dry, woody, bluish stems.

3) Drying. I know there's a ton of posts about drying on this website, but for a newbie there's so much conflicting information. I bought a food dehydrator, and I've been putting them on at 35 degrees overnight (from that website Endofthegame), but I wake up and they're dry but still a bit twisty. Do people dry them at a higher heat? When I tried to grind them up with a mortar and pestle, I couldn't get them to a powder, more like a loose leaf consistency.

4) When they are dry, and you then eat them with tea (or coffee as some friends do), do you strain the bits of mushroom, or make sure you chew through them?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I'm very pleased this year, it's my first time successfully picking Subs (after desperately looking for the last 2 seasons).

Managed to pick about 10 dried grams - I'll be set for a while.

So I had my first proper trip on the weekend... went for a ride and sat by a river. It was really good. What freaked me out is in the exact spot that I decided to sit, a couple of subs decided to join me!

I've always driven an hour away to get my subs from a known spot. I've spent hours in suburban parks and the like and have never seen one single sub in any of those locations. What are the odds? Does this mean that God exists or something? Lol could not believe it. And now I've got a spot 5 minutes from home.

Happy shroom season to all!!!

Found these bad boys late arvo. They look a bit worse for wear I think because my jacket pocket is more rough than in my other jacket.

Welcome to the Shroomery

Thanks for the compliment.

The only psychedelic I know that can be absorbed through the skin is LSD. This isn't the case with psilocybin. Your fingers might have felt that way just from holding something wet for a relatively long period of time.

Would I eat the subs on the plate? Na, I wouldn't. If things pan out my way I'll eat a sub again. Instead I'd take pure psilocybin. If I were to eat subs I'd be incredibly picky and only eat the nicest looking ones. I find these to be more potent than older subs, for example (I think it's possible to tell how strong a sub is by its taste. The stronger the taste, the more potent the mushroom). Can always use scissors to cut off the less nice looking parts of the mushroom and keep the rest. It's up to you. Just bare in mind that you'll like experience more nausea if you eat the less nice looking parts of the mushroom.

I think those spots are from the amount of moisture which was around at the time that part of the mushroom was growing. In my experience it seems that subs seem to have darker brown caps if they get more moisture and yellower caps if they get less moisture.

On the highest setting of a food dehydrator, subs become completely dry in 3 - 4 hours. Potentially for an extra 30 minutes is the mushrooms are enormous. The stems should hardly bend. If the mushroom is held by the cap and the stem bent, it does bend a fair bit more, even when dry enough. I think drying the mushrooms for an extra 10 (or even 20) minutes to be on the safe side is the way to go along with adding extra desiccant the airtight glass jar. Desiccant is really inexpensive when purchased in bulk online so I always add extra just for peace of mind with whatever it is that I have dried.

It is widely said that potency is lost when a fair bit of heat is used to dry the mushrooms, but after someone mentioned in last years Vic thread that they didn't find this to be the case, I've recomended others to use the highest setting on a food dehydrator to dry their mushrooms and whoever's had 2 - 3 grams of these mushroom dried on the highest setting of a food dehydrator have had had their pupils dilate a lot (potentially fully, I didn't look too closely) and haven't been disappointed at all with the effects to say the least.... So it seem like this person was right...

I think the sooner subs are dried and stored the better. That's just my theory.

If you'd like to powder subs, I think using a coffee grinder would be the best thing to use. I'd get a seperate coffee grinder for this, treat it as sacred (along with everything else used to facilitate a mystical experience) and only use it for mystical experience related things....

If consuming subs, I definitely think that consuming the mushroom itself (just the caps if picky. These are more potent than stems) is the way to go. Half-chewing the mushrooms then swallowing works well in order to bypass their taste as much as possible. Lemon tek even more so. If making tea, straining the mushrooms and drinking the water, from what people have told me it seems that not all the psilocybin gets extracted into the water. Potentially only a small amount is. To me this means that it would make accurate dosing a lot harder than usual. So I'd never recommend anyone make sub tea, strain the mushrooms and only drink the water. Nor would I recommend having subs with coffee. I think subs go hand in hand with cannabis and/or hash (if cannabis and/or hash is your thing) mixed with tobacco (optional) but not coffee. Coffee can cause mid - moderate anxiety which I don't think is ideal for a psychedelics experience. Tea can be amazing though, but more so to keep warm rather than for its stimulant effect (if drinking tea with caffeine). If planning to drink tea with caffeine, I can imagine making it weak would be the way to go, or better yet drinking tea without caffeine.

For me, to get into a nice trancy, letting go state of mind, I avoid stimulants.

I actually like to relax in a dry suauna for at least 30 minutes same day as dosing in order to feel deeply relaxed and detoxified (it's like a ritual cleansing for me) and also pay for a long massage to feel even more relaxed. It's good.

Hope that helps! And like always, if anyone can improve on what I've just said, then please do. Making improvements is the idea...........................

A couple days ago I borrowed someone's camera with the intention of taking the best possible photos of subs with the nicest background.

I had limited time so I only photographed one patch, right near the beach.

I couldn't figure out how to make it possible to see the potential photo from the screen on the camera, so I had to look through the little sight (or whatever its called) to see the potential photo and so the whole process wasn't as fun or easy as I thought it would be.

Here's the best photo I took....

I walked past this patch last night and was pleasantly surprised to see that someone had picked the two really nice looking subs right beside the wall.

I'm always happy to see that subs have been picked from my areas. It means that others are taking them and (hopefully) having positive, deeply beneficial experiences from them..............

Love all your posts Mr Painkiller! In terms of drying, my stems crack like twigs but some of the caps are a bit rubbery... What's a good sign of the caps being cracker dry? Should they be in the dyhdrator longer? Or will rice and those absorbent packs do the final part of the job?

I'm storing some away for the first time and worried that I'll mess it up.

Also, I think lemom tek with the powdered shrooms is the beez kneez! Does coffee grinding help with longevity and potency? Or just the same as intact dried shrooms in a jar?

🙌🙌🙌

Psilocybin and psilocin breaks down over time regardless of how airtight and dark the space they are stored in is. Using a coffee grinder increases the surface area of the subs exposed and therefore will break down the psilocin and psilocybin at a faster rate than if stored as a full dried sub.

I store my cracker dry subs with desiccant in an airtight jar in a dark corner in my wardrobe. When I want to consume them I use a coffee grinder to powder them and either cap them or put them in juice to drink.

Do you guys reckon the mushrooms will be coming out only after the second massive fall, or is there a decent chance we get some right after this one?

Finally managed to get out & check my local spot today.

Lots of subs, all a wee bit ripe, but still nice to find them out & about.

I don’t get much of a chance to indulge these days, but I enjoy the hunt nonetheless.

Lots of what appear to be Galerina in the same area too. Be careful out there newbies.

Happy hunting!
