Fucking insomnia!
    #26703247 - 05/29/20 02:13 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I'm so tired but I can't sleep. It's really damn annoying.

About 3 days ago I had one of the worst hangovers of my life (3 day wine binge), mixed with a pretty rough post mdma depression. I vowed that I am not going to drink for a while. After day 2 I realized that it wasn't a hangover, I'm pretty sure it is withdrawal.

In the past 3 days I have slept about 6 hours total. Today I felt a little better so I did a lot of exercise hoping that would tire me out. It did not work. I sit here at 4:10am and still have not slept. I lay in bed and just toss and turn.

I am assuming this is because I haven't drank anything in the past 2 (i guess 3 now) days. I started thinking about how much I really was drinking and realized that it was quite a lot, like at least 8 tall cans a day for like 3 years. I crunched some numbers and am quite shocked at how unhealthy that is.

I sure hope this subsides quickly, I want to start living a lot healthier and it annoyed me to know that all the exercise I did today isn't really going to do much because I can't fucking sleep.

You guys ever experience this? Any advice for insomnia?

Give it a few days, and if it’s alcohol related withdrawal - but you suffer no serious withdrawal symptoms - count yourself lucky you made it through relatively easy & unscathed.  If your getting the shakes or having seizures or high blood pressure, seek medical attention.  Nowadays the protocol for detoxing off alcohol is a refined art/science.

If you are 48 hours in with just insomnia you are likely a okay.  If your seeing shit, get medical help.
Never been through it myself, but I’ve seen too many people go through it hardcore, and without medical intervention they would be shit out of luck.  I’d think the MDMA use age would compound any shitty feelings your having too, so there’s that.

Just Do your best to hand in there and be healthy, take care of your damn body!  It’s your only one.
Once your a few days over the hump most everyone bounces back pretty magically.

For insomnia, you got cardio - long hot baths - good heavy meals - cannabis (edibles especially) - trazadone - the sex - good sleep hygiene.  Wouldn’t recommend any unsupervised sedative hypnotics as it would rekindle your withdrawal in all likelihood and extend it.  So be careful.

All the best luck to you

Hang in there fella. I've had periods where I've been drinking more than is healthy, and it really can creep on you, like you say.

Although you can actually die from alcohol detox, realistically the thing you have to watch out for is damage from 'kindling'. You're much better easing off the sauce rather than going cold turkey, or so I understand.

Anyway, like The Blind Ass says, be safe.

Good idea! I usually keep them on while I'm trying to fall asleep. Although I do find listening to Terence Mckenna lectures as I doze off to be beneficial.

Same boat dude. It's a bitch. Breathing exercises work for me from time to time. I've been tossing and turning for a couple hours after sleeping 3 hours. Just smoked a bowl and when I lay down again I'll take as deep of breaths as I can for a minute or so and with every exhale I imagine my muscles loosening up and that I'm sinking deeper into the mattress. It really does help me ease tension and find that sweet spot where I'm comfortable and relaxed enough to doze off again.

Yeah man. I think it's because I have a lot on my mind too... Right now I'm about to finish a contract, and I have another job interview coming up. That means I have a lot of work to do in the next week. It's pretty stressful. I almost wanna say fuck it to the corporate world and just go to South America with a couple grand and live in a hippie village.

That place looks cool man!

I just have to ask myself: Am I really happy doing what I'm doing? The answer is no. My relationship with my girlfriend is tenuous at best right now and it's making me realize that I might be better off just fucking off. But I went to school for a long time to do this, I feel like I have to give it a fair shot. But I'm realizing that the stress never ends when you're working in an office. It's shitty. If things fall through with the misses I'm just going to save a bunch of money and fuck off.

Go wait tables and or tend bar for 35 years, then tell me how bad "corporate america" is. Hope you get some good sleep soon. I am pretty sure I have some mild to moderate insomnia. I'm a night owl for sure.

I recommend taking magnesium. There are many types of magnesium.... this particular one that I use is great for getting quality sleep. https://www.amazon.com/MagEnhance-Supplement-Magnesium-L-Threonate-Fibromyalgia-Magnesium/dp/B073WZ9SM3/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-p13n1_0?cv_ct_cx=magnesium&dchild=1&keywords=magnesium&pd_rd_i=B073WZ9SM3&pd_rd_r=be3bef60-54bd-411d-ae4a-7671a8fc25e4&pd_rd_w=F1hgG&pd_rd_wg=nEKnH&pf_rd_p=1da5beeb-8f71-435c-b5c5-3279a6171294&pf_rd_r=X16RGSRHKDT8BFXN8WM2&psc=1&qid=1591824125&sr=1-1-70f7c15d-07d8-466a-b325-4be35d7258cc

And if you wanna stay asleep for 8+ hours, take melatonin on top of that.

You can't beat this combo, if sleep is your #1 priority. Only problem is, if you have to work, and the melatonin hasn't worn off, you're gonna be extremely drowsy. I wouldn't take melatonin unless I have at least a 12 hour leeway, because sometimes, you're out for 12 hours.

Been there, man.

I used to drink daily too. And I still have horrific sleeping issues even though I'm now a decent stretch removed from my daily drinking days. I have to take a unisom every night to fall asleep (and even sometimes that doesn't work) and I without fail wake up repeatedly throughout the night. Every night.

It's terribly unhealthy and pretty much everyday I feel terrible. I hate to say it but if I don't figure out something soon I'm definitely on the path of dying young. Because consistently awful sleep issues are very, very bad for you.

Anyway man I don't think I'm helping because I'm being a major downer but I just wanted to say that I know that feel bro, and I hope you get back on the right track

Thanks for the advice man! I agree, I've tried melatonin. One cool thing about it is the dreams man! I've already been having crazy dreams because I did m like 4 days ago, I could only imagine that with melatonin. Worth exploring.
