ID Help for Eastern TN
    #26702785 - 05/28/20 09:19 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:
Found these little fellas off the trail next to creek seemingly growing straight from the ground in large clumps around base of the tree.

Gills:
Gills are not attatched, very dark and extremely close together.

Stem:
Very long. Extremely fragile. Hollow on the inside. Ghost white.

Cap:
Almost none of the caps were flattening out, standing quite straight. Extremely fragile, almost crumbled in my hand. The caps have a medium amount of scales

Spore print color:
The spores are dark black (my prints were basically piles of black sludge)

Bruising:
NA

Other information:
Here are the pics:

I believe what I've come across are either Coprinus comatus (shaggy mane) or Coprinopsis variegata. I appreciate any help you guys could give.

I'd Say Coprinus Comatus. These Types Of Coprinoids Contain Coprine. Therefore They Should Not Be Consumed With Alcohol, It Can Cause Allergic Reactions.

However, Coprinus Comatus Is A Delicious Edible When Young (Such As The Ones In Your First 2 Pics). They Are Great Sliced Up & Sauteed In Butter

Also, A Common Toxic Look-A-Like Is Coprinopsis Picacea. You Can Distinguish The 2 By Their Color, Coprinopsis Picacea Is A Light Brown To Dark Brown Color With White Patches (Universal Veil Remnants).
