I'd help. Do cubes grow in the sand?

A little backstory on this. So I am a cult guy. I have tossed iffy grain jars in my raised bed planter. I noticed after a week of heavy rains that there were these mushrooms growing in the dirt/sugar sand next to the planter. No mushrooms are growing in the raised bed planter.
I need help id'ing these because I have never seen cubes grow in straight sand before. My guess is that they are cubes, but in dirt? At some point I'm sure I dumped grain water out in the area so maybe they colonized on that medium in the soil.
Also my microscope should be here in a couple of days so I will come back and update with pictures of the spores on slides if I can figure that out.
But here we go.

So about 2 inches tall, cap is probably 2 inches. Detached veil. No know spore print yet. Will update shortly.

Definitely look to be cubensis. Im guessing after these heavy rains it could have flooded them over the edges if you just dumped them on top. Or droped a lot in the area

I guess not. There isn't a Psilocybe mushroom that grows in sugar sand in Texas is there? This is why I came to you guys.
I have just never seen them fruit in sand from overflow.

Apart from subcubensis the only look alike is psilocybe chuxiongensis, but that one lives in China and has no annulus. I have found cubensis in sandy soil, but it was in buffalo tracks, so well manured.

If theres discarded spawn below the sand they absolutely do. Those are without a doubt psilocybe cubensis.

Please start your own thread and fill out the identification form. From what I can see from your blurry pictures those are not anything worth consuming.

In really wet seasons, I’ve found cubes growing on rotting tree branches and other unusual substrate. But it’s always near cow shit.

This is absolutely Psilocybe cubensis from the old grain.
edit: I would add a thin casing of manure about a quarter inch deep after the flush is done to feed it.
edit edit: I have seen this before in heavily manured pastures and where large compost piles with manure has sat for several months.

Thanks doc. So I have been dumping grain water in this area for a couple of months. I just didn't expect cubes to be sprouting from the sand and dirt. I will take a print tomorrow and put it under a slide to confirm.
