Pasteurization Confusion

Hello Family this is my first post ever. apologies for any etiquette mistakes i make here. So as a newbie after doing my obligatory pf tek run, it was time to start my bulk adventures. in my lack of knowledge i went ahead and sterilized my bulk sub (coir, verm, homemade hpoo based compost) in oven bags in a PC. everything went great, did 8 tubs with no contamination before the 1st flush and was very happy. took a break for a while because i had more than anyone ever needs. when i came back for another attempt i learned about pasteurization and gave it a shot. everything went according to plan until 6 out of 7 tubs contaminated during colonization. i did this 3 more times trying 145, 165, and eventually 180 with the same results. very discouraging wasting all that time and materials. i understand that my problem was likely my spawn but i want to know if anyone has any strong opinions about pasteurization when it comes to bulk substrate. I am going to make new grain jar lids (i have polyfill design) with sfd's and incorporate the smell test before spawning to bulk. any other ideas? thank you

Tell us about how you pasteurized your bulk sub. It's probably the spawn but I'm just curious on your method.

i have a large Yeti style cooler that i place in the bath tub. inside i have a 1000w bucket heater plugged unto an inkbird temperature controller as well as a small circulating pump. substrate is in wide mouth quart jars with foil as lids with the ring screwed on. i place a digital thermometer in the center of one of the jars to monitor substrate temp. i then place a tote lid over the 18 jars and cover the tote lid with a logging chain to weigh the jars down. i turn my house hot water heater up all the way and fill cooler 3/4 way up the jars. then i turn on the temperature controller and close the lid and the bucket heater gets to work heating up the water. i leave the water at 180 or so until temp starts to rise then adjust as necessary while monitoring substrate temperature. i tried different amounts of time up to 120 min. left it to cool to 80 degrees and immediately spawned

I know some guys like to let pasteurized manure sit for a few days before using it to let the microbes recover, but I don’t think that’s a necessary step.
